Moondog Cafe
8045 Linwood St, Detroit, MI
Crema's Take
“Moondog Cafe is a West Detroit gem that weaves together excellent coffee and vinyl records into one authentically curated space where the music is always spinning on actual vinyl and the atmosphere feels intentionally chosen rather than mass-produced. Beyond their solid espresso drinks and cold brew, they've created something rare—a genuinely sober-friendly, late-night spot that also sells local zines, flowers, and records, making it feel more like a creative community hub than a typical cafe. It's the kind of place where you can taste that the owners actually care about what they're serving and sharing with their neighborhood.”

Let me tell you something about Moondog, with all the new spots popping up in the city, Moondog is harboring the authentic Detroit feel. I've been here mid day for an iced coffee and sweet treat. But also in the evening for a live set from Tony Holland Ether Project. The cafe is in a true Detroit neighborhood, cozy, warm and the vinyl selections (for purchase) are mind blowing, all the classics. The owners got it right with the location, the music selections (wide variety) and it just feels good here.
Great space with good music an good people. Nice spot on the westside of Detroit for a great coffee ☕/Latte an some good listening. It's a record shop as well.
Love that they had coffee available late night! Sober friendly and chill atmosphere with good music :)
What a quaint little space. I loved my time here. You can purchase local music, zines, flowers, odds+ends... Plus the cafe has unique, yet affordable, selections. Seems like they are really invested in the local community and that's what Detroit needs right now. I visited for a music event "Feedback Loop" , which was phenomenal, and plan to return soon.
Solid coffee and light snack/meal spot! Records everywhere, a lot of which you can buy. Music always playing and not some radio or spotify lazy slop, actual curated music playing on vinyl. I drank way too much coffee here, very easy to do haha, had like four cups! FREE REFILLS! Staff is super attentive and friendly. Back yard is very spacious and enclosed. Inside has plenty of seating and tables. We came here to play mahjong and there were like five or sox tables of four people playing for hours, met a bunch of new friendly people. Definitely will be frequenting this spot, it rules. Don't skip it! Give 'em your cash!
