Crema's Take

Island Coffee is a no-frills espresso haven perfectly positioned between the ferry and downtown Nantucket, where locals and visitors alike pop in for genuinely excellent decaf lattes and an impressive array of pastries—their chocolate hazelnut croissants and cinnamon rolls are worth a special trip. The shop trades cozy seating for convenient grab-and-go service and a friendly atmosphere, with nearby benches and public restrooms making it an easy, reliable stop whether you need a quick caffeine boost on a cold day or a fresh pastry to take back to your rental. It's the kind of place that earns repeat visits because they simply do the fundamentals right: quality coffee, quality baking, and genuine warmth.

Island Coffee on Nantucket was such a great little find. We stopped in during our trip and were really impressed, especially with the smoothies. I’ve had a lot of smoothies from different places, and I have to say—these were some of the best I’ve ever had. They were super thick, really well blended, and tasted incredibly fresh. You could tell they used real fruit and quality ingredients, not just ice and sugar like some other places. The consistency was perfect—not too watery, not too icy—just smooth and creamy with a great texture that held up even after sitting for a bit. I got one of the berry-based blends, and it was packed with flavor. It tasted natural and refreshing, without being overly sweet. It honestly felt like something that could be a meal on its own. Everyone else in my group tried different flavors and said the same thing—they were all just really well done. The coffee shop itself had a cozy, relaxed vibe. It’s the kind of spot where you could grab something to go, but also feel comfortable sitting down for a bit and enjoying your drink. The staff was friendly and patient, and they seemed to really know the menu and make everything with care. Even though it was busy when we visited, the line moved quickly and they kept things organized behind the counter. They also had a nice selection of other drinks and snacks, but the smoothies definitely stood out the most to me. On a warm Nantucket day, it was the perfect stop—cooling, satisfying, and full of flavor. It’s clear they take pride in what they serve, and it makes a big difference. Overall, Island Coffee is a great little spot if you’re looking for something quick, fresh, and delicious while you’re on the island. Whether you’re a smoothie lover or just need something to cool you down between beach stops, I’d highly recommend giving this place a try. I’ll definitely be going back next time I’m in town!

Small shop right on the way into downtown from the ferry. They don’t have any place to sit or bathroom facilities but there are bench’s nearby on the sidewalk and public restrooms are just a couple blocks away at the visitor center. The coffee was good and Tawnee enjoyed a cup of tea. We had blueberry muffin and a ham and cheese croissant that very tasty. We would buy from here again.

I was hoping for a nice hot coffee and was so happy when I found they make a very good decaf and soy latte. Add that to a very fresh and tasty cinnamon muffin, and we were completely satisfied.

I always have to stop here and bring home chocolate hazelnut croissants and cinnamon rolls. They have a great selection of coffee and espresso drinks too. A MUST TRY!

Looking for coffee? This is your place! Here is why: Dependable to be open, coffee is great on a cold day, and friendly service. You can park anywhere downtown and easily get to this location. The shop is small but service is fast. So this is not a shop you go to hang out in or do work. This is grab and go. Check out the photos to get a sense of the space.
