Crema's Take

Baryo is a wonderfully versatile Durham spot that seamlessly transitions from a welcoming morning coffee destination into an evening hangout where you can grab creative cocktails alongside espresso drinks, all while experiencing genuinely warm and attentive service from staff like Chris who bring humor and care to every interaction. The relaxed, chill vibe makes it equally perfect for a solo coffee session before work or lingering with friends over drinks, and the team clearly goes above and beyond—they even host community pop-ups and partner with local creators. It's the kind of place where you feel genuinely valued from the moment you walk in, whether you're there at opening or staying into the evening.

I have a small flower farm and was asked to do a pop up here over the summer by the social media coordinator. It was a last minute event we put together on a Sunday morning so I had low expectations going into this but I still spent hours cutting flowers to sell. We agreed on a soft open time since we didn't expect much attendance. I arrived about 10 minutes late, which I mentioned to the coordinator and was told it was totally fine. The bartender saw me but continued to ignore me for about 10 minutes while he puttered around the bar. He eventually showed me where I could set up but I felt that he was immediately a little hostile towards me just for being there. Weird vibe. About an hour later he came back out and told me the owner wanted me to leave because I was late. There were only 3 customers that had come to the bar that whole time and 2 of them were there for my flowers. I was informed that the owner gets drunk and belligerent and makes rash decisions like this and was drunk in that moment. Apparently he had waited for me to get there because he wanted to buy flowers but then was nowhere to be found when I arrived? I just wish the owner had talked to me directly instead of ushering off his dirty work. We could have quickly reached an understanding instead of him escalating. As a trans person I definitely wouldn't call this place LGBTQ friendly or friendly at all for that matter.

Baryo is such a gem! The service here is absolutely exceptional! Every visit I’ve been greeted with such warmth and kindness, and you can tell they truly care about creating a great experience for their guests. The menu is full of fun, creative flavors and unique combinations that make it impossible to choose just one favorite. It’s such a welcoming spot with an energy that makes you want to come back again and again. Highly recommend!

Baryo is a chill spot I’ve taken advantage of the coffee in the morning before work and a stiff shot of bourbon after a long day at work. During my most recent visit I had the pleasure to have Chris as a bartender. My necessarily not like that Outsideguy was absolutely amazing……great suggestions on a bev and food options. Thx Chris I’ll catch you next time brother!!
