Crema's Take

Tucked away behind Boone's main street in a characterful old building, Espresso News pulls together serious espresso craftsmanship with genuine mountain-town charm that keeps locals and students coming back. The knowledgeable baristas clearly care about their craft, offering thoughtful recommendations whether you're after a traditional shot or one of their creative signature drinks, and the space strikes that rare balance of being busy and social without feeling rushed. With smooth, flavorful coffee, homemade pastries, and plenty of seating, it's become the kind of place where you can settle in for hours or grab something quick and feel equally at home.

I had a fantastic visit to Espresso News in Boone — a classic mountain-town coffee shop with real personality and seriously good drinks. At the recommendation of one of the knowledgeable baristas, I ordered the maple cardamom latte, and it absolutely delivered. The maple brought a warm, natural sweetness, while the cardamom added a subtle aromatic spice that made the whole drink feel layered and intentional. It was comforting without being heavy. That paired perfectly with a cinnamon orange white chocolate scone — bright citrus notes, gentle spice, and just enough sweetness from the white chocolate to tie it all together. The flavors played off the latte beautifully. I finished with an amaretto latte, which was strong on the nose with that classic almond aroma, yet surprisingly smooth and easy on the palate. Bold but balanced — a great way to end the visit. Great coffee, thoughtful flavor combinations, and baristas who know their craft. Espresso News is absolutely worth a stop when you’re in Boone.

Yes, I will be a Karen right now. I Barely leave reviews in general. And never negative ones. But I have to leave a review on the terrible customer service. If you aren’t a people person then don’t work at a customer service job. I went this past Sunday early afternoon and the Barista guy was disgustingly rude. God forbid I asked him a question about the menu and didn’t make his job as easy as possible. He rolled his eyes gave me a sarcastic response and scoffed at me w his coworkers. The vibe in that place is so bad because of the workers. No one wants to work these days, everyone is entitled, and good customer service doesn’t exist anymore. I didn’t get the guys name but he’s the one with curly hair who looks like he hasn’t slept in 10 days. I’m writing this review because if the owner cares even a little bit about their business being successful in the future, either get new staff or retrain your staff. Having good coffee but everything else sucks isn’t gonna cut it in the long run.

Fun little tucked away coffee shop! Was so busy when we came, but the baristas were holding it together well. We got a blackberry Italian soda and it was so good. Seems like a popular place and would love to come try more things soon.

Great local Boone coffee shop located behind main street (a little hard to find). Love the vibe. Old building with lots of character. A lot of seating but very popular with students and locals so sometimes hard to find a place to park your bottom. The baked goods were excellent and I totally appreciated the vegan baked good options!!!! So many tea and brew options. The espresso drinks were very good, the espresso roast was rich, lots of froth. My sister has an almond milk mocha and I had a delicious oatmilk mocha. Many folks were studying or reading. The smells, the atmosphere, the low murmur of folks chatting made me want to hang all afternoon to chat with my sis, but we had a retreat waiting for us up the mountain so had to prematurely depart. Highly recommended. I sometimes stop friendly looking folks on the street to find the best coffee shops in town, and this one came highly recommended. I agree! I'll be back whenever I am in Boone!
