Old Kitchen
Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells Inlet, SC
Crema's Take
“Nestled within the historic grounds of Brookgreen Gardens, this charming spot serves up freshly made sandwiches and quiches alongside excellent coffee and those legendary oversized chocolate chip cookies that keep locals coming back. The setting in a historic garden building creates an unexpectedly magical escape for a leisurely sit-down experience, whether you're there for morning pastries or an evening wine and cookie by candlelight. Fair warning: stick with their house-made baked goods and fresh food—the soup tends to run heavy on the salt.”

This is an interesting little spot in the garden! Brookgreen Gardens has three different places where you can grab some food, and this one is housed in a historical building. As the name suggests, this was some sort of smokehouse kitchen building used back in the old days. The food options here aren't that expansive, but if you're looking for a quick bite, it definitely gets the job done with its menu of nabs and sandwiches.
We've stopped at the Old Kitchen many times. Usually at Night of a Thousand Candles for wine while walking the grounds, and perhaps a giant chocolate chip cookie. Today we had the roast beef and provolone sandwich and a Caesar chicken wrap. They were fantastic! Both were freshly made with top-notch ingredients. Iced tea went well with them, the service was excellent, and the garden view was extra special.
Tucked in the beautiful gardens of Brookgreen, the kitchen is a perfect place to sit down and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee, a homemade cookie or scone, and take in your surroundings. You'll be tempted to sit there all day. Small sandwiches and wraps as well. You'll be reminded just how beautiful things can be.
