Crema's Take
“Providence Bagel is a beloved local institution where serious bagel enthusiasts swear the quality rivals New York's best, with loyal regulars returning specifically for their perfectly boiled bagels and generous cream cheese applications. The no-frills, family-friendly spot offers genuine value with a full breakfast menu and reliable pastries, though it rewards patient dine-in customers over takeout orders and benefits from a casual, well-worn charm that feels authentically Rhode Island.”

Got an everything bagel on a Saturday and it was for sure a day old. It was so stale. I asked for it toasted and scooped out. It wasn’t. I paid for a cookie and didn’t get a cookie. Also they had to remake my coffee. For a place with a bagel in its name - I’ve never had a worse bagel in my life
I was looking for a place to eat breakfast early, many in Providence were closed. But I saw this place and checked out the reviews, the menu. And was delighted by the high ratings and cheap menu. So I drove over and was, well, a bit put off, to say. Just 2 years ago the menu was significantly cheaper. What I had expected based on an apparently outdated menu to cost me about $7 instead cost me $10. But the food was delicious, I got the Federal Hill on an asiago and it was hot, greasy, and just what I needed. Place is really worn out and needs updating. Staff was friendly and fast.
Food is generally good but order at your own risk if ordering takeout. Particularly from a third party as they often fail to include parts of your order while stapling the receipt to the bag as if they did. Edit: I figured I’d try again (busy house in the mornings with three adults and two kids so we order breakfast Saturday mornings) once again Providence bagel skips some of our items and seals the bag with a receipt that says everything is inside. Terribly disappointing. Don’t order out from here.
I'm really picky about bagels since getting bagels in NY, and this is the only bagel place I go to in RI. I prefer this location over the other one as well. There hasn't been a bagel or cream cheese flavor I haven't liked. My go to's are poppy seed, pumpernickel, and if they have it, honey wheat Sunflower seed. I used to get vegan spread and avocado, but now I get the bacon scallion cream cheese. I recently tried the garden veggie cream cheese, which was recommended to me and was really good. The staff is always friendly and efficient, even though it's often packed inside. I also recommend the caramel iced latte.
Providence Bagels is a nice little local spot with ample parking and an easy-to-find location. My first impression wasn’t the best, as the place could use some serious TLC—the cushions are run down, and the floors need attention. While the atmosphere is cozy, the facilities could definitely be spruced up. That said, the service was fantastic. I visited two days in a row, and both times the staff was attentive and friendly. The menu is extensive, offering delicious breakfast sandwiches and bagels. The smoothies are absolutely to die for, and the coffee is pretty decent too. Despite the need for some updates to the space, the great food and excellent service more than made up for it. I’ll probably be back again tomorrow, and I’d still recommend giving this spot a try if you’re in the area. A little TLC could make it even better!
