Grit Coffee
409 Libbie Ave, Richmond, VA
Crema's Take
“Tucked into a walkable Richmond neighborhood, Grit pulls off that rare combination of serious espresso craft and genuine warmth—regulars rave about staff like Lily and Juniper who treat each visit like a conversation rather than a transaction. Their seasonal specialty drinks and matcha options go beyond the standard coffee shop fare, and whether you're settling in for a slow sit with a view or grabbing an expertly pulled shot, the inviting indoor and outdoor spaces feel equally welcoming.”

I recently visited this coffee shop because I really liked the location and the environment. The first time I went, I truly enjoyed the view and atmosphere — it has great potential and feels very inviting. However, the coffee was not good. It was served cold, and the customer service felt careless. In the bakery section, there was only one cookie available. When my husband and I asked if there were any other options, we were told no. I decided to visit again to give it another chance and to enjoy the atmosphere. Unfortunately, it was the same situation — only one cookie available, and the coffee was even worse this time. The mug used to serve the coffee was very unusual and uncomfortable to drink from. I couldn’t finish it and had to leave it. I believe the owner should pay more attention to the quality of the coffee, customer service, and bakery variety. These days, customers have many good options, and small details like proper mugs and fresh bakery items really matter. The location is beautiful — with some improvements, this place could be amazing.
Wonderful people who work here! Lily and juniper were so kind to me. They answered all of my questions with curiosity and kindness to help out. I wish them the best and can't wait to see more of them.
The staff is so friendly and informative to their new seasonal and special drinks. It’s a great walkable location and their coffee is good!!! Usually their baked goods are sold out but it’s probably because they’re so popular:)
Best espresso I’ve had in the U.S. ⭐️ Sandwiches are very tasty 😋 My wife had a matcha lemonade and was really good. Service is friendly and efficient We sat outdoors but indoors is very nice too, good music.
Cute coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered an espresso shot and a regular drip to go. The coffee was good, but I didn’t really dig prepping it myself at the station in the corner. But overall, the service was fast and I’d go back to try some of their seasonal options.
