Carmen coffee

Crema's Take
“Carmen Coffee is a beloved Cincinnati institution that feels like stepping into a perfectly worn-in vintage sweater—cozy, lived-in, and genuinely welcoming. Beyond exceptional espresso drinks and innovative cold brews (like their celebrated Coconut cold brew), they're known for rotating specialty single-origins with experimental processing methods, plus pastries like their divine chocolate bonbonos and surprisingly stellar avocado toast that keep regulars coming back. The charm lies in the original location's courtyard and house interior that transforms coffee into an experience, earning them a Food & Wine nod as one of the country's best while staying rooted in real community connection rather than coffee shop trends.”

Cozy & lived in like a Gap sweatshirt from 2001 that’s still relatively soft without pilling, this place is a quaint hub of community yammering & novelty. Went for a Coconut cold brew after their barista let me sample when undecided! So neat they extended a free trial. & wow, what a banana toastie they offer!
The granola and oatmeal was delicious. The granola was nicely toasted and seasoned. We also had a Bonboloni, which was simply divine. The outside was flaky, while the inside had rich chocolate. And we had the almond butter and banana toast, which was sweet and savory! Highly recommend! Service was on point!
What a great little gem! Wish the neighborhood was better but this keeps it classy! Thankyou! The avocado toast was simply the best that I have ever had! The coffee was pretty darn good too!
The Coffee — “CONGRATULATIONS!” (El Vergel Estate) This coffee absolutely blew me away. It’s a special collaboration coffee processed using double fermentation with champagne yeast — something I’d never tried before. So, naturally, I dove into research with my coffee-geek partner in crime and learned how this process plays with flavor development. Brew Method: I brewed it using a 1:15 ratio in a drip brewer with a grind size between fine and coarse — a sweet spot that let the cup open up beautifully. Aroma: Before the sip even hit, the nose had a bright grape and sparkling wine-like aroma, almost effervescent. Flavor: The first sip burst with a champagne-like pop, followed by a rich, juicy grape note that wrapped around the palate. It was playful, bright, and elegant — like a coffee that knows it has personality. Finish: The finish dipped into a gentle, deep wine character — present, warm, and fleeting — and then faded cleanly, leaving no bitterness. Just a soft return to your natural mouthfeel. Verdict: This is an easy 5-star coffee. Innovative, balanced, and exciting. Double fermentation added complexity without overwhelming the bean — a perfect execution. ⸻ The Café Itself On a rainy day, Mom ’n’ Em becomes the exact kind of place you want to be: somewhere cozy, somewhere full of smiles, somewhere that feels like home. It’s more than a coffee shop — it’s a whole feeling. A place to slow down, sip something beautiful, and be part of a moment. I’ll absolutely be back.
F&W rated as one of the country’s best coffee shops for good reason…the courtyard & house interior of this original location augment the unique menu offerings to distinguish from mundane competitors. From breakfast served on actual china to sparkling water on tap to owners who actually work in the business on a regular basis, the entire concept deserves going out of the way for a quality experience
