Black Lodge

Crema's Take
“Tucked away on Richmond's streets is a moody, atmospheric gem that surprises visitors the moment they step inside—think dim lighting and a vibe that feels like discovering a speakeasy. Beyond their stellar cocktails and creative seasonal drinks like their gingerbread espresso martini, Black Lodge pairs thoughtful service with surprisingly solid food (the swordfish comes highly praised), making it equally suited for a leisurely afternoon or a night out with friends where the atmosphere is half the appeal.”

This was my second time visiting this bar in Richmond. My first visit was honestly amazing, which is why I made a point to come back when I was in town again. Unfortunately, this second experience completely changed my impression and ensured that I will never return. When we walked up to the bar, the bartender was deep in conversation with a friend while customers were waiting. We sat there for roughly 10 minutes without any acknowledgment — no eye contact, no “I’ll be right with you,” nothing. When I finally tried to get his attention so we could order, he became immediately defensive and accused me of being rude simply for asking to be served. Rather than recognizing that customers had been waiting, he seemed triggered by the fact that someone had pointed it out. He then handed us two beers, closed our tab immediately, and told us that we were no longer welcome there. What made this especially disappointing is that my first experience here was so positive. That’s why I came back. But the way this situation was handled was incredibly unprofessional and unnecessary. Asking a bartender for service shouldn’t result feeling like we were dismissed.
Didnt have the food here but i came to enjoy the Christmas spirit. The vibe is amazing. My friends and i enjoyed their cocktails a little too much! Our server was the best part of our night no doubt. When you come please ask for Stormy. He is so kind. I will definitely be back.
Fun place, gingerbread espresso martini was a miss... more ginger forward than gingerbread
It is easy to walk past this spot but once you walk inside you will enjoy the scenery. I had no idea this was so close to me. I ate the swordfish and pleased with how it was cooked. It tasted like.they used a tomato based sauce and although I favor lemon with fish, it worked for this dish. I would go and try a few more items on the menu.
Love this place! We happened upon it while attempting to get in at Brenner pass, and now it's become a go-to. Love the atmosphere and friendly staff. Drinks and food are also on point!
