Crema's Take
“This Lafayette bakery has earned devotion for its made-to-order specialty cakes and inventive pastries, with customers raving about everything from lemon ginger king cakes to custom vegan creations that arrive just days after ordering. While some regulars have noticed recent changes to the quality and menu, the team clearly takes custom orders seriously and ships across state lines for special occasions. The welcoming website ordering system and willingness to accommodate specific requests make it a go-to spot for celebrations that need more than just coffee.”

Used to love this spot, unfortunately in my experience it has changed. Really enjoyed their baked goods and sandwiches the past two years I've been stopping in regularly, but over the last 3-4 months there is something off. Many (not all) of the popular pastry and baked goods have been discontinued. Replaced with dry croissants, IMO. My aunt always gets the same sandwich, but last time we stopped she said it tasted different (can't remember what sandwich!). Prices are quite high for many items, but the quality and selection justified it at times. Someone told me they think ownership has changed, I dont know about that. Staff is great. Place is always clean and inviting. It was a good run while it lasted, time to explore other options in the area. ✌️
Special ordered a King Cake (lemon ginger cream cheese filling) for a party and it’s delicious! It was easy to order through their website, which I did a couple of days in advance, and it was ready for the time I scheduled. Very happy with my experience and will definitely be back :)
I live in Virginia and found this bakery through Google. I ordered a vegan cake for my sons engagement party in Boulder with only 3 days notice. I asked for a chocolate 4 layer cake with buttercream frosting (all vegan) and wildflowers. Not only was I blown away by how amazing it turned out, it was also delicious! We had about 40 people at the party and everyone raved how good it was. Dense, moist and so chocolaty! Way better than I had even hoped for! There was none left. I probably should have ordered more. 100% recommend this bakery!
Update: I tried them again based on the feedback they left. I loved old button rocks thanksgiving offering and had a big family thing so I got a few things including a thing of brussel sprouts that alone were $36. It was a rip off. A tiny tin of brussel sprouts that wasnt even full. I thought surely it was the wrong size and went back to the counter and asked - “is this the $36 size” the response was “Yeah, sorry” and she turned around. Apparently, I wasnt the first to complain. While I had been going here for years I never will again and will definitely warn others not to either. In the photo that aluminum foil is 12 inch wide ( the side the tin is on) for perspective. And they didnt even taste good. Tasted bland and mushy like they had been frozen at some point even though I followed directions for crispy. ——————— I used to love this place and we did it all the time as I have to do GF but my family doesn't - so something for everyone. But we got an assortment of cupcakes for my daughter’s birthday at the end of July and the flavor was lacking. They looked pretty but it stopped there. The girls didn't even finish them so I tasted the frosting and it was really buttery- not much flavor regardless of the type - vanilla chocolate etc. very disappointing
At first I was not going to do a review and was just going to keep my disappointment to myself because of my previous good experiences at Button Rock. However, after taking a bite, I felt I needed to share this. I apologize if I didn’t give you all a positive review before. Throughout the years, I’ve been able to get my myself to overlook high prices due to the quality of your product. I’ve brought many people there and have often scheduled early meetings there specifically because of your breakfast sandwiches—specifically the house made English muffins. Even though they are expensive, I usually think of them as being worth it compared to sandwiches you can get elsewhere. So, when I decided to get one this morning, I was really looking forward to the experience I’d come to expect. Only to come home and find that it was, what appeared to be, a store-bought English muffin. I was instantly disappointed. And I called to find out if there was some mistake made on the sandwich. Given that the price hadn’t changed, I assumed that there was no way I was being charged the same amount for a store-bought English muffin. But it turns out that, according to the person who answered the phone, they no longer make their English muffins in house. So, I can only assume they are from King Soopers or something. The person told me that they were sorry and hope I had a nice day. Nothing more. I assume that it was an awkward encounter and she did not know how to respond. So I don’t fault her on that. But, if it were me, I would have at least said something to the effect of, “Well come back in for a chocolate chip cookie or latke or something.” What I hope from giving this review is that you all will at a minimum let people know that you no longer have the house made English muffins and ask them if they want a homemade biscuit or something. It probably doesn’t seem like a big deal to some people. But, there’s a lot of people struggling now financially and otherwise. Buying an expensive sandwich is a luxury. Your value add as a bakery is that your baked goods are made in house. Please take that into consideration.
