Bordertown Coffee
315 16th Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN
Crema's Take
“Tucked away in Dinkytown with a wonderfully understated charm, this spot excels at creating those cozy, rustic moments where you actually want to linger—especially when the fireplace is crackling in winter. The staff here genuinely elevate the experience with their warmth and care, and they've clearly mastered their craft, particularly with espresso drinks and a matcha that reviewers rave about as the best they've ever had. It's the kind of place that works equally well for serious studying, casual meetings, or just settling in with excellent coffee and minimal distractions.”

Nice and cozy! Good coffee, good people, and a nice place to get some work done.
Study cafe that can get very busy during the weekends. It can get hard to hear each other when it’s very busy. The drinks are okay and the interior decoration is very nice and minimal.
Great cafe!! Such a lovely place with the best staff!!! The staff here are the best part to me, they're always so kind and put in their all. The vibes of this cafe are so rustic and cozy. It sucks you right in and keeps you there! Their drinks are pretty good, nothing special, but they do special wonders with giving me caffine haha. I'd recommend getting a chocolate chip cookie with your drink because they are humongous and so tasty. This place gets insanely busy while in semester. I'd suggest coming as early as possible to avoid crowds and secure a spot because they definitely will all be taken up when you want to visit. I often see people almost waiting on the side searching for someone to leave so they can sit. Because it's so busy, it also gets pretty loud. This wouldn't be my study spot choice, but it is a nice spot to meet up with friends for a chat. Parking isn't the best, very limited paid street parking. Walking or taking a bus here is a better option to take.
Bordertown Coffee in Dinky Town, Minneapolis is like a hidden spot because you won’t realize it’s a coffee shop unless you already know before and see the sign at the door. It’s cozy and inviting spot that immediately stands out for its atmosphere. The vintage, classic style creates a warm and relaxing vibe, making it an ideal place to study, hang out with friends, or simply enjoy a quiet afternoon with a good drink. The ambience alone deserves a full 5/5, as it combines a sense of history with a welcoming community feel. When it comes to the menu, the offerings are solid and satisfying. I especially enjoyed the London Fog, which caught my attention as a tea lover, it was a perfect first try, fragrant, smooth, and comforting. I also tried a lemon-flavored cake (though I can’t recall the exact name), which balanced sweet and sour notes beautifully. For me, the food earns a strong 4/5, as the quality was good and complemented the drinks well. The service was also friendly and attentive, with staff who seemed genuinely welcoming and helpful. While there was nothing over-the-top, it was consistently good and added to the positive experience, earning a 4/5 in this category. I definitely will visit and try other drinks.
This is one of the coziest spots in Dinkytown, especially when they get a fire going in the winter. The people working there are wonderful and cool, and the matcha there is the best I’ve ever had. If you’re lucky enough to catch it, grab the chocolate chip espresso scone that they occasionally have on top of the display case. That, or the white chocolate lavender matcha muffin. I know there’s not a ton of space to sit, but it’s easy to come in early some days and curl up in one of the shop’s nooks or crannies and read. The best thing about this place has to be the people. Friendly, goofy, and kind, they’ll not often make a mistake but if they do they’re willing and happy to fix it. I might be biased, but I really like this coffee shop.
