My Favorite Breakfast Spot — and Ode to My First Dog, Layla 🐾 McLain’s Market has easily become my favorite breakfast place in KC. It’s got that ideal coffee shop meets local bakery vibe — during the week it’s full of people working quietly, and on weekends it turns into a friendly family crowd. The staff is always warm and the food consistently hits the mark. ☕ Coffee: I’ve tried the lattes and the Salted Market Cold Foam Cold Brew (Sway Coffee Roasters cold brew + market syrup cold foam). Both are solid, but honestly, I come here for the food. 🍳 Breakfast: Veggie Quiche – Comes with a parmesan arugula salad so good it made a carnivore like me feel healthy. Balanced, flavorful, and surprisingly filling. The Farm Sandwich – Scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, veggies, cheddar, poblano spread, and avocado on a croissant. The buttery, flaky croissant and poblano spread are perfection. Pepper Jack Burrito – Great spice from the serrano sauce. If they toasted it, it’d be flawless. Chorizo Bowl – Sweet potatoes, quinoa, chorizo, and avocado topped with a perfect over-easy egg. A perfect brunch bowl — hearty, wholesome, and comforting. 🧁 Bakery Items: Carrot muffin and cinnamon donut — light, just sweet enough, and baked with care. 💛 Layla’s Last Breakfast: McLain’s also has deep sentimental meaning for me. On the day I had to say goodbye to my dog Layla, I bought her breakfast from here — biscuits and gravy, and The Farm sandwich. That was her last meal before the vet came to our house. I’ll always remember that she left feeling full and loved. So yeah, McLain’s isn’t just a café — it’s comfort, consistency, and a piece of my heart.

McLain's has a sterling reputation and... Well, I just don't understand why. Now my very first experience with McLain's was extraordinary. My girlfriend who would eventually become my wife, bought me Cup Cookies from McLain's and to this day they are my favorite not homemade cookie. The shortbread is buttery and perfectly textured and the frosting is rich and just chocolate enough. Oh man! But everything else I've ever eaten from McLain's was a let down. It's 'good' or 'fine' but nothing special. The breakfast burritos are bland and overpriced. Sandwiches? Same as you could get a number of other places faster. We even tried a pie but the crust was squishy and the filling uninspired. If you want shortbread cookies 10/10. For everything else go to one of many other places and save some money and fight smaller crowds and less congestion.

We hosted our engagement party here and WOW!!! The food was delicious, the ambiance was great, and the staff were so lovely, kind, and easy to work with. We received so many compliments about the space during the event, it came together beautifully. I loved that we could use our own playlist, and that the coffee bar was available if people wanted something extra. Highly recommend hosting an event here! 💖

Lovely breakfast at McLains! The avocado tartine and chicken and biscuits were delicious. Love the outside patio! Also love the baked goods!!

Never disappointed! McCain is always my go to in KC. Never been to this location tho. Its cute. Smaller that the overland park one but still yummilicious! Oh for the gurly out there..., the McCain care they put some girly stuff in their bathroom :) thanks for that!
