Crema's Take

Hidden in a nondescript strip mall off Independence Boulevard, Aroy Thai delivers serious flavor with authentic spice levels that don't pull punches—their "Hot" is genuinely hot, and dishes like drunken noodles and tom yum soup arrive perfectly balanced. The lunch specials offer remarkable value for generous portions of quality Thai and sushi, though patience is required as the kitchen takes its time with made-to-order precision. This gem thrives on takeout business, so come with realistic expectations about wait times but high hopes for genuinely craveable pad Thai and noodle dishes that keep locals coming back.

My new favorite spot! The pad Thai is seriously addicting and the sushi is excellent. The lunch specials are an incredible value for the quality and quantity of food you get. Looking forward to trying more of the menu!

Tonight I unfortunately dined at Aroy Thai/ Sushi Machi, located in a shopping plaza off East independence Freeway. The restaurant was completely empty during my visit, aside from a few takeout orders being picked up, which didn’t feel like a great sign. I started with the tuna tataki, but it didn’t deliver. The tuna tasted low quality, was over-peppered, and felt hastily prepared with inconsistent slice thickness, the searing was not even. The pad thai combo with chicken and beef was even worse. It was unbelievably sweet and unappetizing, I could barely eat it and left more than half on the plate. You can see in my photos that the noodles were almost swimming in sauce, which only made the overly sweet flavor more overwhelming. Overall, nothing I tried felt worth returning for. I’ll stick to my usual spots next time. Hopefully, the restaurant can work on improving the quality and flavors for a better experience.

The food was absolutely amazing! We got the Drunken noodles, Pad see ew, tom yum soup and a lychee smoothie. The spice level was perfect, for people that like spice, a Hot is actually Hot! The service was quick and nice. Usually Thai food is much more expensive so I was glad to see that it was affordable and high quality! This place is really a gem and we will absolutely be back!

The food here is delicious but not nearly worth the hour wait it took to have them prepared. I only ordered two items T1 &T3 and it took well past an hour for them to prepare them. I witnessed several delivery drivers come to pick up orders with at least one being told it would be an hour wait. There were more than a few who came in and picked orders quickly. Again the food was good, but nothing that would justify in hour wait. I'm going to assume by the traffic that they were fairly busy and possibly shorthanded. I would still eat here the prices were reasonable and the food was good. And I also would still recommend to others and just tell them to be prepared to wait.

This is a hidden gem I found on the Yelp Charlotte top 100 list. It's hidden in a strip mall off of Independence Blvd. Don't judge it from the outside. They seem to mostly do take out now. There was only one other table there when we were. The service was very friendly. We started with a Thai Tea which was amazing. I recommend saving it to drink with the spicy food. We were with a group and decided to do a big family style meal. For appetizers, we started with the spring rolls, the Papaya Salad, and the Larb Kai. We ordered both the Papaya Salad and the Larb Kai hot and they were both incredibly spicy and delicious. For entrees, we got the Pad See Ew (beef), Drunken Noodles (chicken), Green Curry (chicken), and Pineapple Fried Rice (combo). Everything was amazing. The Pad See Ew and Drunken Noodles were my favorite and the Green Curry was very good as well. We ordered everything hot, but the entrees weren't nearly as spicy as the appetizers. It's all reasonably priced. We paid $20/person and it was way too much food. We all left stuffed. I think this was the best Thai food I've had in Charlotte. It's definitely a must try!
