Crema's Take
“This Birmingham bakery-café hybrid excels at unexpected flavor combinations, from gochujang twists to berry Danishes that locals rave about, all crafted with such care that they operate on a "when it's gone, it's gone" philosophy. The staff moves with genuine warmth and efficiency, creating an atmosphere that feels equally welcoming whether you're grabbing a quick pastry or settling in for a slow morning, though arriving early is essential given their sustainable, intentional approach to each batch. There's real buzz around the recent ownership transition to June Coffee, with longtime fans hopeful the kitchen's commitment to complex, creative flavors will remain unchanged.”

So I previously went here last year (2025) and thought 5 out of 6 items were home runs. Shortly after they announced the sale of the business to June coffee and I immediately said “there goes that bakery”. I decided to give them a chance and not assume they would fall off just because the owners changed. So here it is Feb 1st 2026 and I drive from Atlanta to give them said deserved chance. Well they didn’t prove me wrong. The breakfast ? Cookie was dry and tasted burnt, the oat bar was super bland and all you got was the tartness from the jam. But some how zero sweetness from the crumble. I don’t like overly sweet but how you can make a crumble which is made from sugar not sweet and off putting it’s magical. Also go the raspberry danish situation which was also missing anything besides the tartness of the jam. The lemon tart dough was extremely undercooked and boardline raw. So again another miss. Everything missed the mark this time. Complete 180 from last year. I wanted so deeply to be proven wrong and to enjoy amazing treats but sadly that didn’t happen.
The berry Danish is absolutely fantastic! I'm pretty sure the rice krispy has peanut butter in it. If so, allergic people be aware. The service was very quick, and the person that cashed me out (has an industrial piercing) was very friendly and actually paid attentive rather than having the usual blank customer service face.
Really sad that the owner is going to be selling this place. I hope everything stays the same. This place, definitely lives up to the hype. I was really taking it back at how complex the flavors were some of the bakery items look unassuming, but after taking a bite, I was just really in heaven.
Exquisite baked goods served by wonderful staff. Get there early or order ahead, because they take a sustainable approach to their preparation and creation - when it’s gone, it’s gone and that’s it for the day. We tried the breakfast cookie, ham and cheese croissant, Korean spiced twist and the lemon twist. All absolutely delicious, so whether you want sweet or savoury, this place has something tasty for you. Last Call also supply coffee shops across Birmingham, so you may have already enjoyed their goods without even knowing. Recommended and a firm favourite.
Today was my first visit — and definitely not my last. I’m still dreaming about that gochujang twist and the ham & cheese croissant… but honestly, everything I tried was incredible. Pro tip: get there early! They opened at 8, and by 8:10 the line was already long. We waited about an hour, but it was absolutely worth every minute.
