Don Ceviche East Village
57 1st Ave, New York, NY
Crema's Take
“This intimate Peruvian gem in the East Village nails the art of unhurried dining, where attentive service and exceptional ceviche draw you into lingering conversations over perfectly seasoned ceviches and anticuchos that taste like they've traveled straight from Lima's finest kitchens. The causa and lomo saltado here have earned loyal devotees who return again and again, each visit revealing why this small, carefully run spot has become a destination rather than just another neighborhood restaurant.”

I visit Lima at least once a year and I can undoubtedly say this is better than some meals I’ve had in Peru. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but the causa is a must try here, along with the best ceviche I’ve had outside of Lima. Each dish was authentic and made with intention.
We decided to try out Don Ceviche last weekend and we were so amazed by the visit. The service was exceptional, the waiter was super attentive and recommended some great options. We ordered anticuchos, pollo à la brasa and of course picarones. We ate so fast, I forgot to take a picture of the pollo. That’s how good it was! They gave us a complimentary alfajor and it was the best I’ve ever had in my life - every bite was an explosion of vanilla. Def a must visit again!
AMAZING!! The young gentleman serving us was attentive without over checking on us too much. We had the fried potato to start, and had lomo saltado and shrimp saltado and it was DELICIOUS’ we visited Peru before and this dish is authentic just like you would have in Peru. Cosy and inviting place inside and super clean. Would highly recommend! :)
Excelent Peruvian restaurant. The food is amazing, well seasoned and freshly made, it was really one of the bests foods I've ever tried. Service is great, it's a small restaurant, and waiter is very attentive. The atmosphere is cozy, being a small but well decorated restaurant. My only critique is that on the cheviche the amount of fish was too little.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Ever-Evolving Taste of Peru in New York 🇵🇪 This was my third visit to Don Ceviche, and each time I leave even more impressed. What amazes me the most is how their quality keeps improving with time, refining every detail and proudly raising the Peruvian flag through their food. On this occasion, I enjoyed a refreshing leche de tigre, the delicious yuquitas with huancaína sauce, and an unforgettable tamal made with special flour brought from Peru. The highlight for me was the seco a la norteña, perfectly cooked and bursting with authentic flavor. My friend had a classic pisco sour, while I enjoyed a glass of chicha morada, both equally well prepared. Beyond the food, what makes Don Ceviche truly stand out is the commitment of the entire team. The owner and staff are present, engaged, and genuinely passionate about explaining the origins of the dishes and the effort behind sourcing the right ingredients. It’s not just a meal, it’s a cultural experience that transports you back to Peru with every bite. Each visit feels warmer, cozier, and more representative of Peru. For me, Don Ceviche is not only a restaurant, but a piece of home in Manhattan.
