Fiji Kava
1007 Dillingham Blvd, Honolulu, HI
Crema's Take
“Fiji Kava is a no-frills kava bar run by Daya, an owner who's deeply knowledgeable about his craft and genuinely passionate about sharing authentic island kava culture with those who appreciate it. The reviews are polarized—some praise his expertise and welcoming nature, while others found him gatekeeping or dismissive—suggesting this is a place for serious kava enthusiasts rather than casual browsers, with a small, unassuming stall-style setup that rewards an open mind.”

I wandered in looking for some authentic island kava and I wasn’t disappointed. Does Daya sound confident? Sure. But it’s because the guy knows his stuff. I walked about with a blend of what I think is a good combo of heavy/heady kava but I was more impressed I could stand to drink it. I hate the taste of kava. I think I’m gonna go back and get some more before I leave. I might even order from him directly, he seems like a good dude, was super nice to my daughter. Hell he had a kenpo karate kaju looking flyer in his fridge. I like him, if you didn’t I think you were just insulting and a know it all 😂
Our experience at Fiji Kava in Honolulu was one of the worst we've had in the kava community. My husband and I walked in with years of experience drinking kava and supporting bars across the country, but were met with condescension and gatekeeping from the owner himself. Despite Waka being listed and offered, he refused to sell it to us, stating he "didn't know us" and "didn’t want us talking bad about kava." That kind of reasoning is not only insulting but discriminatory—and felt deeply personal. If you're offering a product, you should be willing to stand behind it, not selectively withhold it based on who your customers are. The kava we were allowed to purchase was extremely weak, and frankly disappointing in quality. Add to that the awful parking situation, and there’s really no reason to go out of your way for this place—especially when there are better, more welcoming kava bars elsewhere. If you're looking for a spot that truly embraces the spirit of aloha and the kava community, I suggest you skip Fiji Kava.
Owner is rude beyond words. Refused to sell me the kava I asked for because “it’s too strong” - even though I own a Kava bar and drink kava every day…. Rude and ignorant, clearly doesn’t get much business as his shop is a small, messy, cluttered joke. Avoid this place at all cost.
Weird vibe, not very personable Update(post response): So, I was actually in a good mood looking forward to getting some kava but caught the above. On the other side of the coin, maybe you were having a bad day... You serviced me, the product was good, and at a good price. Take the comment for what its worth and improve on it. At least I didn't fully put you on blast like the below. Your response speaks for itself.
Kava and owner are great. Very very unassuming location, and small stall style with a shared bathroom. Daya was welcoming, intent listener and very open about his experiences and sharing. Bottles were $10/each, and he came out and drank with us, instructing on how to best drink it, and frequently checking up on us. It’s not the ambiance you’re here for— it’s the kava and good vibes with a good shared experience if you’re open to it.
