Crema's Take

Chocolate Fish is a rejuvenating espresso-focused roastery on Freeport Boulevard that captures the rare quality of feeling like both a destination and a sanctuary—baristas radiate genuine passion for their craft, and whether you're lingering over a smooth, complex Americano or enjoying their excellent nut butter toast, there's a palpable warmth that makes you want to return intentionally rather than by accident. It's the kind of thoughtfully run space where you can settle in with your laptop for hours, catch up with friends, or simply rest and refuel, all while tasting coffee that's clearly roasted with care.

I stumbled upon this cozy shop on a long drive. I would return intentionally next time. Such a beautiful and rejuvenating rest stop. The service is cheerful and helpful. The peanut butter banana toast is a solid treat for the drive weary traveler. The cappuccino was giant and flavorful.

Nice and cozy coffee shop. Good vibe, and the drinks are pretty solid. I think Temple and Estelle is still tops for me, but Chocolate Fish is on par with Pachemama (in Davis) and other high end coffee shops. The decoration was nice and it's a good place to study. Very clean, good service and lots of swag to choose from. Parking is usually not a problem- a nice little gem tucked in a place you wouldn't expect a hipster coffee place to be. Enjoy!

It's the first time I've been in since the shop changed hands. But could you tell it changed hands. The service was slow considering how many people were there & what they were waiting for. They were also complaining about the wait. The staff seemed annoyed to be there & were more interested in their own conversations than helping folks. Someone else mentioned that the toaster was blamed for the delay & 2 mo later, they are still using that for an excuse. Then talked to each other about how they aren't getting the old one that worked back. Don't know what that's about but it's a basic need of you are serving toasted bagels & not that big of a cost. Counter at the pick up spot was filthy but the pastries looked good. No cream products of any kind out & when I asked, I was given a plastic half gallon of half & half that was then left on the counter. Yikes. I popped in because of convenience but I'll go out of my way to drive to Camellia over coming back. I'm bummed, I really used to like that place.

Chocolate Fish Roasters on Freeport Boulevard is a great-looking café with solid food and coffee. The avocado toast and nut butter toast were both delicious, and the Americano was smooth and strong. The interior has a nice upscale vibe, and there’s plenty of outdoor seating if you want to sit in the sun. Parking, however, is a pain. You’ll likely end up walking a quarter mile unless you luck out with a spot. It’s a true neighborhood café, which is nice, but it’s definitely not easy to access. Now for the worst part…. The bathrooms. You need a key from the counter, which is wet, grimy, and clearly passed around all day. The bathroom itself feels neglected, with no paper towels and a weak hand dryer that just blows around bathroom air. You can’t even open the door cleanly afterward. It completely kills the premium feel of the place. The staff wasn’t especially friendly either, which didn’t help. Still, the food and coffee earn it five stars, but it’s wild that such a polished café has bathrooms that feel like a gas station’s.

Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters is hands down one of the best coffee spots I’ve ever been to. The moment you walk in, you can feel their passion for coffee — from the warm, welcoming atmosphere to the care they put into every single cup. The baristas are not only friendly but truly knowledgeable, always happy to recommend something new or explain the story behind the beans. The coffee itself is exceptional. Smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced — you can tell they source and roast with incredible attention to detail. Their pour overs are phenomenal, the espresso is bold yet refined, and the seasonal drinks are creative without ever being over the top. Everything tastes fresh, clean, and crafted with love. Beyond the drinks, the vibe is relaxed and inviting — the kind of place you want to linger, whether you’re catching up with a friend or just enjoying a quiet moment with your cup. If you love coffee, this place is a must. Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters doesn’t just serve coffee; they celebrate it. Easily a five-star experience every single time!
