Crema's Take

Tucked into Old Town San Diego's historic park, this charming general store transports you straight back to the 1860s with its thoughtfully curated vintage atmosphere and wooden shelves lined with specialty coffee, tea, herbs, and nostalgic candies. The pastries are baked fresh on-site daily, and the staff genuinely delights in sharing stories—whether it's the history behind their licorice selections or pairing you with the perfect treat to enjoy in their peaceful outdoor seating area. It's the kind of place that feels like a time capsule where you can linger over a traditional coffee while soaking in the slow, intentional vibe of a bygone era.

"All pastries are fresh, made here at this location" - told me the cashier. I tasted mold when I bit my banana bread, and this is what I saw when I turned it over. I was already in the Coaster train, so couldn't return my purchase :(

Went to Rust today and was given a historical story of licorice as we had some free samples! Ms. Lopez did so well and we have three baggies of the pretzel bites, cake licorice and butterscotch candies. This is a store we always stop at in Old Town. Thank you!

Located in the heart of 'Old Town San Diego State Historic Park' in the picnic area. Rust General Store is a must stop for us when we visit. This lil store takes you back to the 1860's. You will find housewares and a bistro serving Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Lemonades, Pickle-on-a-Stick, Ice Cream Floats, Fresh Cookies, Pretzels, Popcorn, and so many more goodies that you can enjoy right outside. I love seeing the friendly staff in such era-themed outfits, so unique and fun. They offer a Traditional Tea Service in their private garden on Saturday and Sundays at 2:30 PM by reservations. I enjoy their Iced Vanilla Latte with a Pretzel. Their fresh lemonades are so refreshing and so so good! Overall, it's always a good experience at Rust General.
