Old German Bakery & Restaurant
225 W Main St, Fredericksburg, TX
Crema's Take
“This beloved Fredericksburg institution captures the warmth of a traditional German gathering place, where made-from-scratch pastries and hearty specialties like schnitzel and German pancakes arrive at your table hot and thoughtfully prepared. The staff genuinely makes you feel like family—your coffee cup stays full and your server knows the menu inside and out—making it the kind of place where lingering over breakfast becomes an unhurried ritual rather than a rush.”

Amazing food, service and atmosphere!!! Hubby fell in love with the Opa's German sausage and I fell in love with the German pancake!! Our food was hot and fresh. Our waitress was helpful, friendly and so sweet!! Steady stream of customers coming in to eat in the restaurant and pick up take out orders, and to get an order of their yummy pastries!!! This place is excellent. 5 stars all the way around!!!
This was excellent overall. Great service from the staff, and the food was great. Definitely get the red cabbage salad as a side, you won't be disappointed. The Reuben sandwich and potato salad were also excellent. But the real winner here was the Giant Pretzel with Beer Cheese and Mustard. Best pretzel I've ever had.
WOW! The Old German Bakery & Restaurant ROCKS! We had a wonderful breakfast and loved Rebecca who doted on us the entire meal. She is amazing. We had the Schnitzel and an unbelievable German pancake. The pancake was a creation in between a traditional pancake and a crepe. Thin, moist and spongy. I topped it with butter, syrup, powdered sugar, cinnamon and lemon. Yes, lemon! It tasted more like lemon curd, sweet and tangy. Mind blown. I highly recommend the Old German Bakery & Restaurant when you are in Fredericksburg, Texas!
Good food and great service. Little breezy sitting at our table, but overall, a nice atmosphere. Omelet and crepes were nice. Coffee cup stayed full and the bakery items were tempting. Extremely busy! The wait line was non-stop. Overall, a nice experience.
Heads up- this place is busy, so make sure your entire party is present or you will not be seated. The food is excellent. In my opinion, this place has the best German food in the area. I had schnitzel and then a German pancake for dessert (FYI get it with the lemon and powdered sugar). My husband had the sausage plate. My brother had the bratwurst place and my sister in law had the bratwurst sandwich. The German pancake was amazing too!!!!
