Crema's Take

Joe Van Gogh has carved out a devoted following in Durham with their espresso-focused drinks that range from creative house specialties like their beloved dirty chai to classic cortados and flat whites executed with real skill. The vibe strikes that perfect balance between a quick caffeine stop and a place worth lingering in—clean and cozy with friendly staff and solid food options that keep regulars coming back. Whether you're in for a five-minute grab or a longer sit with friends, this is the kind of neighborhood spot that takes their coffee seriously without taking themselves too seriously.

Best dirty chai. (Chai with espresso) Sweet and helpful staff. Loved the quick stop in!

One of my favorite local coffee shops. Good, quick service most of the time. Great specialty latte options, but they will also crush making classics like a Cortado or flat white. Their food options are surprisingly good and varied, and you can have a decent meal here, especially on the weekend.

I’ve been here a few times where the food/coffee and service is consistent. Great coffee and bites but their customer service is off. One of the individuals that rings you up kinda has an attitude which is not cute. So not thanks. Additionally, I found it interesting when I ordered my drink (Medium latte with LIGHT ICE) that they charge you 50 cents EXTRA to get light ice. When I asked why, they said they charge extra because it requires more milk? I didn’t know wanting less ice on my drink means I pay more…Mind blowing. 🤯 It was confusing but hey, no worries. I am not coming back. To anyone reading, my recommendations for coffee is Cinnamon Cocoa and Bean Traders. These joints have incredibly friendly staff and delicious coffee/bites. Worth the trip.

Great Spot!! Friendly, clean, cozy coffee shop experience. I used to live in Durham, and loved going to both locations. (Note: Also a location, downtown by Whole Foods). They do sell coffee equipment for home use + beans. Although, I do miss the vanilla yogurt with homemade granola + punch card system.

We had a pleasurable experience here for coffee. Everyone remained distant in their seating after getting their food or beverage. The staff was friendly, not highly interactive or engaged, but friendly. I had a latte that was ready in a timely manner and was delicious. This is a great place to meet up for a working meeting.
