Crema's Take
“Tucked into Richmond's Shockoe Bottom, this Haitian bakery and café is a genuine neighborhood gem where the owner greets you like family and every pastry and savory item seems to come straight from someone's kitchen. The fresh-baked goods—particularly the banana bread and Haitian beef patties—and authentic Haitian fare arrive hot and made-to-order, so patience is part of the experience, but regulars swear it's worth the wait for the warmth of the space and the care in every bite.”

Just picked up lunch from one of my fave spots in Shockoe bottom and saw what seemed to be a gem. Haitian food and a bakery…I had to have it. As I approached the door an elder woman on the phone entered with me. She did not greet me, she just asked what I wanted. It was very unwelcoming. When I decided on banana bread she said she didn’t have that today. She then proceeded to walk away. I wasn’t suggested anything else and in fact she never got off the phone while speaking to me. Space is gorgeous. Service is sorely lacking. I left without ordering anything bc the woman on the phone never came back to the counter.
OVER PRICED, LOUSY SERVICE, FOOD WAS TRASH!!! When you go into a place and it's empty, it's empty for a reason. Charged me $68.00 for a fish dinner and a side of black rice and plantain. All of it was gross. The fish tasted old, still has scales in some places and was not big at all. When I contested about the price, they became offensive and told me that the fish dinner alone was $50. I argued but paid it trying to patronize black businesses but NEVER AGAIN. YUCK!!!
The owner is so pleasant and friendly, baked goods are delicious, and Haitian food is authentic! Definitely check them out. However, please know, they make their food fresh, so it may take a wait. I suggest calling in advance to see when an order would be available. It's worth the wait!
Great Haitian patty & hot chocolate. They have the best banana bread🍞. It's a Cozy environment. When you walk in you are greeted and welcomed with a smile. You are treated like family. Will definitely visit again.
Visited for the first time today, and every single thing we tried was absolutely delicious! The Haitian Beef Patty, Pimento Cheese Biscuit, and the Strawberry Lemon Cake were divine, but the Haitian Hot Chocolate was pure bliss, and hands down the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had! Be patient - this hot chocolate is made from scratch and it takes time to come out. But so worth it! Sip and savor.
