Sweets Handmade Candies

Sweets Handmade Candies

★★★★★3.3(111 Google reviews)

Crema's Take

This handmade candy shop leans heavily on artisanal chocolate-caramel combinations (like their sea salt dark chocolate candy apples), but a 3.3 rating tells you why locals have moved on: outdated Covid-era access restrictions, grumpy service, and prices that don't match the quality—reviewers consistently mention mediocre chocolate and a lack of transparency around pricing. If you're passing through Truckee and want a candy shop, the experience here is more likely to frustrate than delight.

What to expect

Classic coffee drinks done right. Quick-grab spot. Pastries on the menu. Family friendly.

They used to be good but never got the memo that Covid is over. So they still limit access. Simple answer:?we don’t go any more. It isn’t like there chocolate was worth waiting for anyway.

Candy apple coated with chewy caramel with fragrant dark chocolate and sea salt. Love the caramel, so maybe the original flavour candy apple ($8.95) will do. Rather pricey, this was for $14.95.

Nice boutique candy shop in historic downtown Truckee. Plenty of handmade candies and other dessert items to choose from. A lot of first timers asking questions, so sometimes service can be slow (not because of the staff). Parking on the weekends can be a challenge.

I wasn’t very thrilled with the experience. Right when you enter, they’re still doing Covid social distancing 4 years later… Now it would be fine if their chocolate was decent, but our orange chocolate we bought was rock hard. Service could use some improvement.

There are many kinds of chocolate. Each chocolate pairs differently with other flavors. This is where Chocolatier (Chef of Chocolate) Preston Lillo is skilled in pairing chocolate and caramel with other flavors around the world. He has two locations which he visits everyday. If…
