Merit Coffee
4228 Oak Lawn Ave, Dallas, TX
Crema's Take
“This espresso-focused Dallas spot has earned fierce loyalty from coffee devotees who swear their brew is unmatched—one regular describes that first sip as pure pleasure that makes other good coffee feel ordinary. The trade-off is a consistently busy operation where service can lag during weekday rushes, and some visitors feel the experience doesn't quite match the quality of their other locations around the city. If you're willing to wait for truly exceptional coffee and don't mind a hectic scene, Merit delivers the kind of cup that makes home brewing feel like a compromise.”

My wife had an appointment at Drybar a couple of doors down, so I stopped into Merit Coffee while I was waiting for her. I arrived not long before they were getting ready to close, but the staff was still very welcoming and friendly. I really enjoyed the atmosphere inside. It had a relaxed feel that made it easy to slow down and enjoy the moment with a good cup of coffee. Speaking of the coffee, it was fantastic. Rich flavor, smooth, and clearly made with care. If you are in the area and looking for a great coffee shop to stop into, Merit is absolutely worth the visit.
Busy location on a weekday afternoon. Perhaps the line seemed long because the service was slow. Did not look to be understaffed but I saw many customers waiting a long time for their drinks. I had a latte there. No complaints but I would say it was just average.
Merit Coffee has good coffee across their chain, in this location is no exception, but this location is also consistently the weakest location in Dallas. The service is sub-par on a regular basis. There has been more than one occasion that I have seen three people behind the counter deep in conversation when customers are waiting or when online orders are pending. The employees of this location are clearly there to socialize and collect a paycheck. Customer service is a distant afterthought. Corporate needs to implement a change of management to turn this location around quickly.
Used to frequent Merit since I started working on the strip, but honestly every interaction I have in here is something left to be desired. Customer service is okay. Coffee isn’t the best. It’s pretty much always busy, great for them, but it definitely shows in their quality. I’ve really stopped going after my prior interaction after I was left waiting on a peppermint tea for ten or so minutes while the baristas talked to other customers instead of making my drink, not a big deal but annoying. However I decided to give them one last shot and I got a completely wrong order for a coffee that tasted like they hadn’t cleaned the machine in a few days. Definitely won’t be spending anymore of my hard earned coin here.
My personal #1 coffee shop based on the coffee. That first sip brings me such pleasure that other good coffee feels pedestrian. I buy the beans for home use but I never quite replicate the shop’s brew.
