Crema's Take

This indie bookstore-café hybrid pairs expertly sourced, organic fair-trade coffee with a thoughtfully curated selection of literary fiction, poetry, and niche titles that won't show up in chain bookstores for miles around. The vibe attracts the kind of crowd that lingers over espresso while browsing dog-eared used books and obscure art volumes, making it equally suited for a slow afternoon alone or meeting a friend with shared taste in both literature and caffeine. The guava pastelitos and matcha drinks seal the deal for anyone seeking a genuinely countercultural bookshop experience in Vermont.

What to expect

Espresso-focused, matcha and tea options too. A slow-sit, laptop-friendly spot, good for meetings. Pastries on the menu.

Well curated selection ranging from amazing and niche coffee table books to a $3 cart for readers. Loved sipping my coffee and sifting though the books. Must stop and awesome spot to start your Brattleboro main walk and shop!

Somehow I missed this dual bookstore (Antidote Books) and coffee shop (Duchess Coffee) in my previous travels through VT, but not this fall! Adorable, cozy, and filled with a highly curated selection of books. The focus appears to be on poetry, but there’s also other selections…

It was a very nice, small used bookstore with an unusual selection of new literary books. The coffee was also good (though no indoor seating). However, it is no more, and the location has been cleaned out. The owners have opened Dutchess Coffee in Brattleboro, but no used books.

So grateful to have this gem right in our town. A wonderful place full of charm with a great selection of books plus delicious drinks. They serve their own organic, fair trade coffee plus organic matcha and organic chai.
