Crema's Take

Hummingbird is a wonderfully eclectic spot where the relaxed patio atmosphere (complete with heaters for cooler days) makes it easy to linger over creative dishes that blend Southern comfort with unexpected flair—think oysters, po'boys, and braised melts alongside lighter options like veggie quiche and cheese grits. The staff treats you with genuine warmth, and while the menu is ambitious and hits more often than it misses, it's really the inviting vibe and willingness to experiment that keeps locals from Johnston County making the drive to Raleigh. It's the kind of place where you can settle in for an unhurried afternoon, whether you're meeting friends or just savoring good food in good company.

We live out in Johnston County and this is one of the few go to places in Raleigh. Never disappoints. Tonight’s selections were the chicken wings & white pizza (him) and the braised melt in your mouth short ribs (me).

I loved this place! The oysters and the bread pudding were amazing! The chicken bahn mi was very good and the blackened flounder sandwich was good but I wouldn’t get it again because the fish wasn’t fried hard enough to my liking and the sandwich was too soft. The homemade potato chips were really good! The drinks were really good as well. I will be back very soon

Overall I really enjoyed this restaurant! We sat on the patio during a cooler day but the heater and wind blockera kept us warm. We ordered the shrimp po boy and the trout open face sandwich, both were pretty good! The trout sandwich lacked a bit of flavor but over a great choice for a light lunch. Drinks came out quickly, service was super quick, and they didn't rush us out when we stayed for an extra hour just chatting which I appreciated. They even came to fill my water up while we chitchatted even though we already paid for our meals. Ill be back!!

The staff was great and the ambiance was eclectic and relaxed. The gumbo didn’t not taste like gumbo. It was more like a soup and lacked the gumbo taste. Honestly it lacked taste in general. The first bowl came out luke warm but they quickly rectified that. The meatballs were good and had a nice flavor, I would order them again. I wish the spaghetti squash under would have had flavor like garlic or something but they were plain. My friend stated the steak was good but they ordered medium but the steak came out more well done. They had the sangria and stated it was really good. We will be returning, small menu options but nice change of scenery.

Service: I was welcomed immediately and the staff here were pleasant and helpful. I appreciated being treated kindly. Food: I enjoyed the veggie quiche. The cheese grits were also enjoyed. The quiche had a delicious rich and savory flavor and I enjoyed the flaky crust. Cocktail: I expected to sip on health, wealth and happiness when I ordered my espresso martini but the three beans were missing. The flavor was great but the presentation matters. Ambiance: I enjoyed brunch on the patio on a cool fall evening. There were heaters on the patio so I never got cold. The seating is comfortable and the atmosphere was very cozy. I do recommend Hummingbird and I love that there are reservation options.
