Cafe Du Monde City Park

Crema's Take

This iconic New Orleans institution trades the crowded French Quarter chaos for a serene perch overlooking City Park, where you can watch the Sydney and Walda Sculpture Garden while biting into pillowy-light beignets that somehow aren't overly sweet. The chicory-forward coffee is an acquired taste that divides regulars, but the frozen café au lait and iced mochas offer approachable alternatives, and the whole experience feels less touristy and more authentically local than its famous sister location. It's the kind of place where you can linger for hours in the beautiful outdoor setting or grab pastries on the go, making it genuinely family-friendly without sacrificing the charm that makes New Orleans special.

Fast, fresh beignets - my first ones! They were definitely lighter than I expected - 3 was just enough and they were not to sweet as well. Tried a friends frozen coffee too which was pretty good (a bit sweet tho!)

Great location. Right next to the Sydney and Walda Sculpture Garden. The area surrounding it is just beautiful. Pick up some beignets and enjoy the outdoor setting.

Tried the beignets, hot cafe au lait, frozen cafe au lait, and iced mocha. Iced mocha was my fave. Didn’t really like the strong taste of chicory for the other ones. Beignet was pretty good too in terms of texture but I’m not a big fan of powdered sugar. Wish they had other versions.

Personally, I prefer Cafe Du Monde’s City Park location more than the French Quarter location. It’s way cleaner. The scenery is also less hectic since you get to see the sights of City Park. The lines can get long, but they go by pretty quick as well as the service. You can never go wrong with their classic beignets! Hot, fresh, and flavorful! We only got their 1 order of 3 beignets ($4.53), and the price is such a bargain for the quality. We also got their large orange juice ($5.43). It’s very standard OJ but no complaints at all. Also, they do not accept Apple Pay or tap. Only Physical Credit Cards or Cash. Overall, a classic NOLA spot you should visit at least once!

The beignets lived up to the reputation, so delicious. I personally did not like the chicory coffee, it was just a bit bitter and unusual to my taste pallet but I’m glad I got to try it. I was able to order and get my food right away but soon thereafter a lot of tour groups came in and the place got quite busy.
