Crema's Take

Abuelas Midtown wraps you in genuine warmth the moment you walk through the door, with a thoughtfully nostalgic atmosphere that transports you straight into an abuela's kitchen. Their traditional Mexican breakfast spreads shine—particularly the chilaquiles and rancheros—paired with refreshing aguas frescas and fresh pan dulce that keep people coming back for the full sit-down brunch experience.

Not impressed, left feeling disappointed. Decorations and layout of the place is on point concerning the atmosphere and making you feel nostalgic of being at your abuelitas home, but other than that, it’s lacking. The food isn’t good, you’re better off going to another Mexican restaurant. The hot chocolate wasn’t sweet, the beans weren’t seasoned, the salsa didn’t feel home made, the eggs looked boiled/poached vs being over easy. The highlight of what I ordered was the orange juice. If you’re looking for a place to take pictures instead of quality food, then this is the place. Also, is overpriced considering what you’re getting.

Fabulous spot for brunch! Delicious offerings and a very warm feeling of family as soon as you step in. We tried the Rancheros, and Chilaquilles and both were great! The Aguas Frescas with Pina was a great compliment. They do have quite a few coffee options too. Fresh pan also available. We will be back!

My first time here. I absolutely love this place. As soon as we walked in the door, the friendly staff welcomed us & answered any and all questions we had. The atmosphere was super cozy. The decor is totally the vibe of the restaurant. I felt like we were at my grandparents' house. The Horchata Latte was amazing. My partner had the Nube de Horchata and he loved it. We ordered the Green Chilaquiles & the Chorizo & egg Mollette. Everything was flavorful & delectable. We will most definitely be back!

I finally got to check this place out. I ordered green chilaquiles ( tortillas chips, green salsa, cheese and sour cream) these were too spicy and I was unable to enjoy them 😔 The pan dulce was a bit hard. I had a pink colcha. The horchata latte was tasty, not too sweet with only a hint of horchata. The place is small and you have to stand in line to order your food, so it gets really packed in their with lots of people standing around waiting for their food. The servers bring you out your food, so I’m wondering why they don’t take orders at tables and this will eliminate all the people standing around inside, if they are waiting to be seated. There is outdoor seating, but is was a cold 🥶 December morning.

Tried Abuela’s during their soft opening and was really impressed. I had the chilaquiles, both red and green, and they were delicious. just the right amount of spice without being overwhelming. You can tell they’re using quality ingredients and putting care into every dish. The space itself is beautiful. There are multiple outdoor patios, all with a cozy, family-friendly feel and plenty of room to find your own spot. Lots of colorful Mexican art around, which gives the place a really warm and welcoming energy. The menu is still a little tough to read right now, but they do have a line that says to ask questions if you need help which is nice. I do hope they get the layout dialed in as they settle into the full opening. I didn’t try the coffee, but I did notice it looked like they were using a smaller commercial machine, so I’m curious to see how that turns out once they get into their rhythm. They mentioned they’re still fine-tuning the menu and plan to add more options soon, like burritos. Even so, what they’re offering now is already solid. Definitely feels like a spot that’s going to grow into one of Midtown’s go-to casual Mexican restaurants once everything’s fully up and running.
