The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse
1770 13th St, Boulder, CO
Crema's Take
“This stunning Tajik-inspired teahouse is equal parts architectural marvel and cultural experience, with hand-carved wooden details and intricate pieces imported from Dushanbe that create an almost otherworldly atmosphere. While reviews are decidedly mixed on service consistency and food execution, visitors consistently praise the extensive tea selection and the building's sheer beauty, making it more of a destination for the immersive visual and historical experience than a reliably polished café visit. If you're drawn to unique spaces with genuine character and don't mind some operational rough edges, the Dushanbe Teahouse rewards curious explorers with an unforgettable setting you won't find anywhere else in Boulder.”

Definitely a beautiful venue, but the food and the service did not live up to the hype. Everyone was nice, but confused. And I can’t say it was the cleanest venue. It felt a little scuzzy.
The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse is a gem! I spend my birthday here and everything about it is perfect. The stunning building with an amazing history, incredible tea selection, delicious food, amazing baked goods... and they host events too! You can enjoy sitting indoors or outdoors. It's a bit off Pearl Street, walking distance, so parking's easier here, which is a bonus. If you're looking for a unique, chill spot to grab tea or a bite or check out an event, this place is a must. It is located on the ground level, so accessible to wheelchairs.
I had been dying to come here for a decade. Today, when my dream finally came true with my mother and sister, it quickly became a nightmare. I don’t leave bad reviews lightly, but the sheer rudeness we experienced left us all feeling sour and disrespected. From the moment we arrived, we were utterly ignored. For roughly seven minutes, we stood at the entrance while staff passed by, made eye contact, and said nothing—a truly awkward and unwelcoming way to treat guests. When my sister finally suggested we just go to the bar, I mentioned to the manager (a balding man with colorful nails) and the bartender that we’d been overlooked. Instead of an apology, the manager barked back that a table would be a “45-minute wait” and defensively claimed no one had ignored us. Not only was his tone unprofessional, but he also made no effort to acknowledge our wait or even offer a simple, “We’ll be right with you.” To add insult to injury, we finished our entire tea and meal in less than 45 minutes—and the entire time, most tables sat empty. Why the exaggerated wait time? We ended up guessing it was maybe due to their holiday tea beginning at 3pm (which was in 45 minutes) so they didn’t want to seat us before then. The food itself was disappointing (the Malaysian noodles were nothing like authentic Char Kway Teow - as someone that spent a month in Penang), but it was the manager’s dismissive and frankly rude demeanor that truly ruined what should have been a special family occasion. We all flew in from different parts of the nation and I kept telling my mom and sister how excited I was for the tea house. Sad. I’ll never return. A note of thanks to the kind blonde bartender and the manager who vented her frustrations—your glimpses of humanity were the only bright spots in an otherwise dismal visit.
Stopped in spontaneously after a hike and was so impressed with the beauty, history, food and staff. We sat at the bar and was served by Connor who entranced us with stories of the place. We had three different teas, and ate the picked salad, the mousse for desert and every bite was incredible. Will be back for the reserved tea time and other events. Just a phenomenal must stop place.
A jewel of a teahouse in boulder! Extensive selection of tea. Waiters were very helpful and knowledgeable. The building is very stunning and is made of variety of pieces brought from Tajikistan. Food was very fresh and delicious as well. The only thingni would have asked if the waiters checked on the table a bit more frequently. Great experience here.
