Compass Coffee

4710 Langston Blvd., Arlington, VA

★★★★4.1(211 Google reviews)

Crema's Take

This Arlington outpost of Compass Coffee wins over regulars with genuinely skilled baristas who nail both traditional espresso drinks and carefully crafted pour overs, even if the location itself struggles with inconsistent execution and a frustratingly sluggish service vibe. The coffee quality shines through enough to keep people coming back despite the mediocre grab-and-go food and occasional temperature mishaps, suggesting that what you're really here for is that perfectly pulled shot in the hands of a personable pro. If you can look past the operational growing pains, you'll find a neighborhood spot where the coffee craft actually matters.

It kills me to write this review but there is critical mismanagement of this store. The individual employees whom I have worked with are kind, personable and professional. Of course we all know that Compass beverages will be great. But this location in particular seems to always be (in my opinion) short staffed. Which is of course going to create very long wait times. I had been in a very similar situation the past 3 times I have been to the Langston store. Just be prepared to wait. We all know it’s good coffee at the end of the wait.

Campus Coffee is quickly becoming my new favorite coffee place in town. I’ve tried a couple of their Vienna locations already, and this time checked out the Arlington location right in the heart of the city. The vibe was great and the staff was super friendly and helpful. I tried the Almond Butter Latte and their hot chocolate — both were excellent. The Almond Butter Latte especially stood out; it’s unique and delicious. I even asked about how sweet it was and they told me they could remake it if I didn’t like it, which is the type of customer service you don’t get everywhere. This place is definitely giving Starbucks and other coffee chains some real competition. Great drinks, great service, and a great location — definitely worth a visit.

The breakfast sandwiches are so incredibly mediocre. I thought they were going to be relatively made to order but they are as frozen and as pre-made looking and tasting as it gets. Definitely do not recommend a single breakfast sandwich. Starbucks as better quality and that’s saying something.

I ordered a caramel Latte and a sandwich. The sandwich was fine but my coffee was not hot it was warm. I was disappointed I was looking forward to a hot cup of coffee/latte

LOVE Compass Coffee but I agree with other reviewers here that this is a HORRIBLE location. Unbothered would be the best way to describe their customer service. No sense of urgency. The only way to know if you got the right order is to open everything up or taste it before you drive away. It’s not like anything is cheap, therefore I would appreciate it the order to be correct— they will place order sticker with the right info but on the wrong order. The most frustrating part is that usually everyone is relatively pleasant but not competent. Nice only goes so far. It’s getting worse and it’s unfortunate.
