Crema's Take
“This Richmond spot punches above its modest rating with genuinely excellent biscuits and creative breakfast fare that's earned devoted fans despite its quiet storefront. The counter-service setup keeps things moving for weekday grab-and-go crowds, while their signature touch of calling orders with personalized questions adds a memorable, playful charm that transforms a quick breakfast into a genuine experience. If you're willing to overlook the sparse parking lot, you'll find carefully crafted food and staff who actually care about making your visit special.”

Don't know how this location stays in business. It's near my house so I drive by frequently and almost never see any customers. Perhaps they have a big morning rush? A friend and I tried it out a couple days ago. Arrived about 10:30 am on a Thursday. Parked right in front and walked right up to the counter, no waiting. There were about 3-4 staff working and maybe 4 other customers dining. I ordered the "Retro Breakfast" which the friendly cashier (Sally?) recommended, and my friend ordered one of the breakfast sandwiches. Coffee is self-serve and the ceramic mugs are a nice touch. I didn't especially care for the coffee, but it was okay. Our food was ready in about 5 mins. My Retro Breakfast consisted of two eggs over easy, two crispy slices of bacon, two somewhat gooey hash browns (cross between a hash brown and hush puppy), and of course, a biscuit (with warm jam). The eggs and bacon were quite good. The somewhat odd hash browns were okay, but I prefer regular hash browns. The biscuit was the biggest disappointment. I was expecting that to be the best thing and instead it was dry and somewhat hard. The jam was runny which was also not preferred. My friend only finished half of her breakfast sandwich. She had requested crispy bacon, but apparently the cook didn't get that message. (I gave her one of my two pieces, which were crispy.) Not sure why she didn't finish eating her biscuit sandwich, but perhaps it was because the biscuit was somewhat hard / dry. My retro breakfast w/ coffee was $15 after tax, which seemed a little high for what I got. My friend mentioned she felt the prices were a bit high as well. I wanted to like this restaurant, especially since I love (soft) biscuits, but unfortunately that was the thing we liked the least. If you want to check this place out, I suggest you do it soon. There's a lot of breakfast competition within a mile or two of this restaurant -- including a Starbucks right behind them -- so Maple Street Biscuit Company may be leaving this location in the near future. Just a hunch.
I am a biscuit enthusiast. I’ve been wanting to try this place because it’s located near me, but have been skeptical due to the super mediocre star rating. So happy I took the leap! I am a vegetarian, so I got the biscuit sandwich with spinach, goat cheese, egg, and pepper jelly and folks, it 👏 delivered 👏. Absolutely delicious, fluffy biscuit, flavorful and balanced. And yall… the hashbrowns are SO TASTY. Not traditional - they are more like potato fritters - but they are decadent and the homemade ranch to dip is excellent. Go there! Try this sandwich! And we should see if we can get the star rating up. No, it’s not gourmet and the ambiance is a bit sterile, but it’s a super tasty option with a very nice staff and convenient for Midlo residents. We will DEF be back for this spinach/goat cheese/egg/pepper jelly sammie. 🤤
Have been seeing this restaurant a lot and wanted to try. It is much like fast food, you walk up and ordered and can pick up at the counter. The staff were very friendly, the menu had a large variety and this includes coffee. We both got the five and dime with sausage gravy. The sausage is a tad spicy but not overly spicy. He ate it like a sandwich and I cut it up with a fork. The biscuit was soft, and everything on the sandwich was good. The smash browns were perfection. I'm already looking to see what I can get next time.
We were really disappointed with the taste of the food. The pictures look great, but the taste was sub-par. The biscuits itself were not bad, and the hash brown fritters were very good. I ordered the Five and Dime sandwich and had the gravy on the side. The chicken was a little dry, and the gravy was like paste. See the picture of me holding it upside down. It was not tasty at all. I will not be going back.
This place is amazing. We have never been and just wanted to try and it is the best breakfast place around. It is quick, they ask customers a funny question and that’s how they call your order. For example today was christmas movies and they called our order with the name home alone! It was a great experience and the way was amazing.
