Crema's Take

Camino Bakery is a beloved neighborhood fixture where the staff's genuine warmth—like their famously patient cashiers—makes every visit feel like coming home, even if you're just passing through town. Their pastry case and custom orders (bourbon pecan pies, anyone?) showcase real baking ambition, and they've thoughtfully expanded their menu with vegan and gluten-free options that actually taste exceptional, not like afterthoughts. The recently remodeled Brookstown location pairs all this with a bright, open space that invites you to linger with a well-made latte and something fresh from the oven.

Honest Review Huge thank you to the male cashier with the blonde curly hair in a ponytail. His patience and kindness were honestly the reason I didn’t walk away. I was trying a new café, staring at a new menu, and having one of those social‑anxiety moments — and of course that’s exactly when a whole line decided to appear behind me. It was quiet when I walked in, so apparently I accidentally summoned customers. He didn’t rush me or make me feel awkward, which made me feel welcome and comfortable enough to order. That kind of customer service really matters. The café itself is beautiful — the porch, the cozy chairs, the low lighting — everything felt calming and intentional. I loved the flavor options too, especially seeing ube, matcha, and more traditional flavors all together. The barista made an amazing lavender latte, and I appreciated having almond milk as an option. The matcha macaron was way bigger than I expected and perfectly sweet without being too sugary. Between the décor, the flavors, and the genuinely kind service, this place was such a good find. And being walking distance from the Hawthorne Inn and the convention center was a bonus.

Have been coming here or downtown for over a decade or more EVERY time I am in town. They just remodeled this location in the past year bw my annual February visits. It is so nice and so open. More room, better flow. More bakery goods code and cold case as well. Had the quiche today and an iced nitro coffee. Perfect! Favorite coffee shoppe, not to be missed!

The only bakery in Winston-Salem that would make a bourbon pecan pie for Thanksgiving. So I ordered the pie, it needed to be paid for upon ordering due to being a Thanksgiving order. Completely understandable. Upon arrival at Camino bakery, I walked up to the coffee counter, and I asked where I needed to go in order to pick up a pie that I ordered for Thanksgiving the gentleman behind the coffee espresso machine said that I needed to wait in line and request it at the register so for a pie that was already prepaid and all I needed to do was pick it up. it took me 40 minutes to get through the line in order to pick up my pie. Once at the register, I showed my receipt for the prepaid pie and was told to go stand over by the stairwell and they would send the lady up from downstairs with my pie. She came upstairs without my pie. Wanted to see my receipt again to confirm looked at my receipt went downstairs came back up with my pie. This all took 40 minutes for a pie that was prepaid. Part of the reason why people pre-order and pre-pay is so that they do not have to go stand in line for another 40 minutes during the holidays for that reason I would never order from this bakery again. The parking lot is really cramped so park on the street. It is very loud inside, so if you want to work on your computer bring headphones. Onto the pie, the pie was so tiny it slopped around in the box and for $37. It had literally no bourbon flavor would definitely not be my go to bakery for anything. In my 40 minutes standing inline I witnessed muffins, pastries, slices of quiche placed on plates and served cold. I witnessed the gentleman serving food wipe his face never wash his hands and serve food multiple times.

I love love love Camino!!! The BEST coffee shop in Winston, with the most delicious pastries! As someone who chooses a vegan diet (and is allergic to food dye), I love knowing that everything is fresh and made with real ingredients. I can tell you confidently that they have the best vegan pastries in town, and I love trying something different every season as they rotate their menu. The staff are friendly, and have great suggestions for delicious drinks. All locations are great, though Brookstown is my favorite, especially with the new renovations! A must try in the Winston area, you won't regret it!

Amazing vegan and gluten free options!! I wish I could have one of these in Florida. Too bad I was just spending the night in Winston Salem, if not I’d come back here every week! Delicious latte, too. And the best GF mushroom quiche I’ve ever had - this isn’t an exaggeration, it’s just absolutely unreal!
