Baine's Books & Coffee
485 Valley St, Charlottesville, VA
Crema's Take
“Tucked into Charlottesville, this beloved indie spot seamlessly blends literary charm with serious coffee craftsmanship, featuring a whimsical Harry Potter-themed library corner that elevates the usual coffee shop experience into something truly special. The espresso drinks are genuinely excellent and the pastries match the quality, but it's the genuinely warm staff and the intimate, book-lined coziness that keeps locals coming back—just arrive early or off-peak, as the devoted crowd can fill its limited seating quickly.”

Popular local coffee shop with delicious espresso drink and a warm cozy atmosphere. The seating is limited and we must have gone on a busy day because it was hard to find a seat. Clearly a favorite with the locals! I had a decaf oatmilk mocha latte made from homemade chocolate syrup. Nice and hot, the flavors meshed well, quite yummy. The quality of the espresso was good. I appreciated the homemade non dairy chocolate syrup. Many coffee shops just use Monin syrups, which will do in a pinch, but don't make a superior latte. My daughter had a vanilla late which she said was very good. The service was very slow, although I think they had just gotten hit with a crowd. That was fine as the atmosphere in there is quite nice, looks to be a historic building. Very interesting books line the walls. The service staff were efficient, but not particularly friendly. Again maybe because of the rush. They had homemade quiche which looked delicious, although we were just there for coffee. I would recommend this coffee shop if you are in the area.
The coffee was fantastic and the staff were so kind, welcoming and friendly. The shop was so warm and cozy and had such a great feel to it. It was a gorgeous day so we took advantage of the outdoor seating.
Stopped by, based on a Virginia Living article. Very cool shop and food was good. However, wait time to get my food, which I had to ask about after standing at pick up (where none of the staff asked why I stood there), only to get smart response from the person who took my order - ridiculous. Train your staff on customer service.
Talk about a treasure trove of a coffee shop! A Harry Potter thematic library in the coffee shop?! So cool! The coffee was amazing, scone was great and the service even better!
I walked into Baine's, and something just clicked. It's such a cozy atmosphere, the staff is friendly, and the food and drinks are divine. They also offer a pretty nice collection of books and gifts. I really had to try not to spend too much money, but I can't say I'll succeed in that next time! Baine's is SUCH a nice place, though. I can't wait to go again! Update: So, I work here now. Still my favorite place. Come on in, get a drink and something to eat!
