Cafe Beignet, Sheraton
532 Canal St, New Orleans, LA
Crema's Take
“Tucked inside the Sheraton on Canal Street, this casual counter-service spot serves generously sized beignets that trade some of Café Du Monde's chewiness for a lighter, airier texture—worth trying even if you're a purist. Beyond the powdered-sugar classics, they've got you covered with thoughtful touches like multiple dairy-free creamer options and flavored add-ins, plus a solid lineup of breakfast and lunch dishes that keep both quick-grab visitors and lingerers happy.”

We came here more out of curiosity because Cafe Du Monde is our go-to for beignets. It turns out the beignets are not too bad. Not as good as Du Monde, but I don't mind it. It's larger, less chewy in the middle, less sugar. But still not bad for a sit down with coffee. The atmosphere was awesome. We came on a Monday night. A live jazz band was playing. There were plenty of seating. It was bright, cheery, very well air-conditioned. Line was fast. $5 for 3 beignets is very affordable. On the other hand, $4 for hot chocolate?? Still, not a bad place to hang a bit after a tiring day of walking around.
First off, this is casual dining - order at the counter, they bring it to your table, paper dishes and plastic cutlery. It's all about the food. Had lunch here and came back for dinner. Really enjoyed the Crawfish Etoufee! Fish Po Boy at dinner also tasty. The Beignets were also yummy, though not as good as Cafe Du Monde, but still hit the spot. Love the vintage esthetic - pressed tin ceiling, honeycomb tile floor, player piano. The staff were all friendly (though a couple of them didn't know what Etoufee is, which I found humorous) and on top of things. Live music at night with an awesome jazz trio! If we were going to be in NOLA longer I would eat here again.
Don't have many complaints about this spot! Cafe Beignet on Canal St is a must-try for people visiting New Orleans. It keeps its doors opens to the public as lines fill up really fast for their famous beignets, and more delicious food. I tried their Southern Breakfast and Cajun Hashbrowns, the classic beignets and the ones with Mardi Gras sprinkles. Everything was just wonderful, with decent portions that would satisfy you just enough to keep you moving throughout the day. I will say the beignets were a tad too dense, as I think other places make them far lighter when eating them. Plus the open doors, while convenient, invite the occasional birds who are searching for food. There were at least five of them roaming around; customers were getting distrated from their food to taking pictures of them. I couldn't help but take a few myself--they were just too cute! That said, it would be a real shame for someone to accidentally step or kick on one of these birds while they're enjoying their meal, so I'd suggest finding a way to prevent them from entering as much. Overall, I had a great time and I would come by again!
You must buy 3 beignets, but it gave me an opportunity to share. I thought I was in heaven when asked if they had dairy free creamer options. The options are plentiful and you can add flavors! The coffee and the beignets were absolutely delicious. After hours it turns into a live music venue and has a full service bar of reasonably priced spirits and wines. Its in a good place to grab a seat and people watch too…
Café Beignet A Taste of Southern Charm in the Heart of New Orleans Café Beignet is everything you imagine when you think of New Orleans warm hospitality, great food, and the perfect touch of charm. The beignets were perfectly golden and coated in clouds of powdered sugar sweet, light, and absolutely delicious. The breakfast croissant sandwich was fresh, flaky, and flavorful, making for a satisfying start to the day. What truly makes this spot special is the atmosphere the cozy setup, the self-playing piano filling the café with soft jazz, and the live entertainment that brings the room to life. The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and professional, offering genuine southern hospitality that makes you feel right at home. If you’re in New Orleans, Café Beignet is a must-visit the perfect place to sit back, enjoy a cup of coffee, and soak up the city’s magic. 🎶☕️🍩
