Crema's Take

This South Street institution has earned a devoted following for bagels that locals genuinely consider among Philadelphia's best, with particularly stellar sweet varieties that keep people coming back. The warmth of the staff—who greet you with genuine smiles—makes it feel like a neighborhood gathering spot where you can linger over coffee and conversation, though pricing on breakfast sandwiches runs a bit steep for the quick-grab crowd. While execution can be inconsistent and costs might surprise you, the combination of quality bagels and the genuinely friendly vibe makes it worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood.

First time checking it out since I live so close by. Sadly, I was disappointed with the breakfast sammy I ordered. First off, I saw on the giant menu board that "your choice of cheese". However, I guess I didn't realize that only referred to cream cheese and not regular cheese? Clarification would have been nice because I wasn't excited about paying an unexpected additional $1.50 for a slice of American. But I was willing to overlook that if the sandwich was good. Unfortunately it wasn't. First thing I noticed was that the cheese I saw was white. I know white American cheese exists so I thought that might be the case but it wasn't! They gave me the wrong cheese. Then after a few bites I tasted a bit of a crunch and realized there were several bits of eggshell in there. The sausage itself was decent but that wasn't enough to save it. Since it wasn't even that busy so I don't think I'm gonna give them a second chance since reviews since mixed anyway. I believe Fresh2go has bagels so I'd rather take my chances there or maybe The Bagel Place.

I love this place. The staff is always so friendly and greet you with a smile and a cheerful hello when you walk through the door. The bagels are my favorite in Philly but, what sets them apart is their house made cream cheese! The veggie is my favorite but all of them are delicious. So many creative options. Oh! And if you are looking for a bagel that tastes like a fresh plate of pancakes…they have that too! So good.

some of the best bagels I’ve ever had! I am not too much of a fan of a savory bagel, I am definitely a fan of sweet bagels, and that is what I got from Philly bagel – South Street. I am particularly fond of the French toast, bagel, and the blueberry bagels. The jalapeño cheddar bagels, look amazing, just not my speed. But if you’re in the mood for a jalapeño and cheddar bagel, this is clearly the place. A nice toasted bagel with some Philadelphia cream cheese and some Wawa coffee and you’ll be all set for the day! Another member of my party got the Sammy, with pork roll, which received rave reviews.

This place was tough to rate, the food was 4ish stars but I paid almost $7 for a sausage egg and cheese bagel sandwich that was good, but for that price it should've been a 5 star 'mother of all breakfast sandwiches'. I know food carts that serve a better sandwich for $3.50. If I remember correctly, they menu says $5 with your choice of meat but I'm not 100% sure. I guess you're mainly paying for the 'South Street' thing and the fact that bagels are made there. The other items seemed more reasonable, but I have to take a star away from my 4 star rating for the cost.
