Crema's Take
“This beloved DC bookstore pairs thoughtfully curated shelves with a welcoming café where you can settle in with coffee or a cocktail while you browse—it's the kind of neighborhood gem where families, remote workers, and book lovers all feel equally at home. The spacious, unhurried atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff create that rare vibe where you want to linger, whether you're hunting for a specific title or just seeing what calls to you from the stacks. It's clear from the devoted regulars that Solid State has mastered the art of being both a serious bookstore and a genuine community gathering place.”

I bought a new paperback book here costing $17 after asking, Is this book used? They replied simply ‘no’ although it looked pretty beat up to me. Still, I wanted to find something to take back home. A $1 discount would have been appreciated considering the sci-fi novel I was after may have been to planet Mars and back. Okay selection of books but some of the books look worn. Just saying as a passive observer. Café is nice seems like patrons are reading as they get their caffeine fix and putting the books back. Mine came in the form of a dark green milky iced matcha hand-crafted by soundless baristas across the way. Basically a type of green tea ice cream. Lots of cool bookstores in D.C. go check this out this one on H-street if you happen to be out searching for trendy places.
I love visiting solid state bookstore for its open space interior and they also have a cute space for the children section. It is also not crowded and the open space makes it easier to stroll around book sections. They have a selection of beer and wine. I do wish that they also serve more selection of coffee. Regardless, I do recommend visiting this place when you are strolling around H street :)
Really great bookstore with a wide selection. You can grab a drink while you browse, which makes it even better. They have a nice kids section, and it’s fun to hang out and flip through books together. We started chatting with the staff and walked out with a great recommendation—The Three-Body Problem. Easiest way they described it (and somehow still hard to describe): kind of like the Chinese version of Asimov. That alone sold us. The staff gives genuinely good recommendations, not just what’s popular, and they really support local authors and the broader community. I’ve bought a few books from them already and will definitely be back. Just a really solid local bookstore.
Very inviting book store with a friendly staff. You can order coffee or some adult beverages while you browse. Bathrooms were clean too.
Popped into Solid State Books on H St. in DC on my way to Dolcezza Gelato and I was instantly into the vibe. 📚✨ It’s one of those neighborhood spots that just pulls you in. Shelves stacked with everything from bestsellers to travel guides, cool little knickknacks, and even a cozy café area if you feel like curling up with a coffee and a good book. Whether you’re into thrillers, memoirs, or plotting your next getaway, there’s something here that’ll catch your eye. Solid State Booms has something for everyone! Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area and want to slow down, browse, and get lost in a latest novel for a bit.
