Crema's Take

This intimate roastery is the passion project of Fred, an owner who's genuinely invested in both his craft and his customers, often sharing stories about sourcing his Japanese roasting machine while you wait. The coffee itself is impressively smooth and balanced—their house roast and specialty floats like the Tokyo cold brew float showcase thoughtful flavor combinations—making it a perfect spot to linger over a single cup or have a meaningful conversation.

Tried their Hawaiian house roast coffee, an affogato freeze drink and a Tokyo cold brew float. From all the great reviews I was truly expecting some great coffee and was also hoping to meet the owner, but in both cases I wasn't lucky. This must have been one of their "off" days - or mine - the coffee was off, the owner was off. His trusted employee was polite and hard-working which was nice, and the thoughtfully-decorated, small, open-front store - as in, no door - is located inside a warehouse-like environment with strong AC that made you forget you are on a tropical island - which actually was not all that bad, either (although outside is another story - many homeless line the sidewalks around the corner, and - although they don't seem to be bothering anyone, a clean feeling this area definitely does not give). But it is a coffee shop, and when the coffee is thin and not fresh-tasting, it is disappointing. Might return on their "on" days - or mine - to see if that makes any difference, and hopefully then I can bring the rating up.

Fred was incredible! I was lucky enough to visit in a quiet time in the afternoon and met Fred at the register. He kindly shared stories including his experience buying his roasting machine from Japan (one of only two in America). I asked him to roast some beans for me and he explained everything that was going on and allowed me to try a delicious bean freshly roasted (incredible). I'm a barista at a specialty shop and experiencing a micro roast right in front of me is a memory I will cherish. I will definitely order more from my home in Utah. Thank you so much for sharing Frank!

Fred is the owner and he is a gem of a person. Clearly very passionate about coffee and giving his customers a great experience. He is proud of his coffee and rightfully so- it’s smooth, not acidic, and not bitter. My husband got the Americano and I got an iced latte. He husband said it’s the single best cup of coffee on the island. I also agree it’s a very good cup of coffee. Frank spoke to me about air roasting his beans and it definitely made the beans much more palatable. Highly recommend!!

This place is amazing! By far the best affogato i've had so far. The vanilla ice cream is very rich in flavor and pairs well with the espresso. The dole whip was not overpowering with sugar. Great spot for sure.

Great authentic coffee shop for purists. The owner, Fred, is a true coffee aficionado. If you love fresh-roasted coffee, made to order, to your roasting preference, then this is for you. If you want over-roasted, burnt charcoal-like coffee, or surgery "unicorn flavored" junk, head to Starbucks. The shop has a unique, made-in-Japan air roaster, one of only two in the entire US. It was a joy to discover the shop, and even more of a joy to "talk coffee" with Fred. Also, there is plenty of parking outside the cannery, and a large, peaceful food court in which the coffee shop is located. Support your local businesses, and stop sending your money to corporate mainland behemoths like Starbucks.
