Aesthetically, the place is great. Looks clean and welcome. I came because I wanted coffee and a pastry. I bought a cappuccino, egg sandwich and an avo toast. The cappuccino was not good. It didn’t look like a cappuccino just look liked the milk was steamed and poured into the coffee. The egg sandwich did not taste like egg. I was in doubt, it seemed as though the egg was with powder or with carton egg, not real egg. The texture of the egg was very different. It has pours in it. I asked how the egg was made and was told they add cream, salt to their egg batter and steamed it. The avo toast didn’t have a fresh guacamole flavor either. It seems as if they buy it premade and it’s not home made. Overall, this place might just be for looks. Their simple buttermilk pastry might be the only thing that is ok. I would not comeback.

Located next to the wine museum. This is an upscale cafe, featuring espresso drinks, gourmet bakery products, savory entrees. Amazing breakfast options: lobster omelette, be sure to try their chicken waffle! Spicy chicken breast over a sweet, thin waffle. The kitchen looks like a Michelin rated restaurant!

I came because I heard it was run by the Press restaurant, but I didn’t find anything particularly special. Last time I focused on the bakery items, and this time I tried their signatures like pâté and terrine. Honestly, considering the Press name, it was a bit underwhelming. Still, it’s worth trying at least once.

A must stop when heading up Valley. The atmosphere is beautiful but what really blows me away are the pastries. The detail and care put into everything from the bakery is unmatched in Napa Valley. Definitely stock up on the Calistoga Crunch cookie, and really whatever other cookies they have. Literally zero misses, you can’t go wrong. Garlic knot for my savoury friends is a huge win. Thank you Under-study!!

Didn’t expect to love Under-Study as much as I did, but this is a top 3 breakfast spot for me. Order on the far left and then enjoy sitting on the patio. Great ambience, there’s an outdoor fireplace and modern lighting fixtures. Probably the best bacon egg and cheese sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Husband had them substitute bacon for sausage and it was revolutionary. The pastry chefs here should be commended on their lamination, the croissant was glistening and had exquisite layers. Pepper aioli added a perfect layer of subtle heat. Iced honeycomb latte was also not to be missed. Love the aesthetics and crunch of the candied topping. Bacon trio was good, but wasn’t the highlight here. We also enjoyed the lobster French omelette, newly added Opera cake and two cookies. The subtle details (gold dusted coffee beans, candied figs, caramel drizzle) are what make these so memorable. Highly recommend trying if you’re in the area!
