Crema's Take

Nestled in Pittsburgh's Lawrence Hall food court, Dear James is a vibrant coffee and cocktail bar that thrives on creative energy and social flexibility—it's the kind of place where you can grab a specialty drink while your group splits up to sample sushi, Korean corn dogs, or soul food from the surrounding vendors. The two-level space buzzes with pinball machines and genuinely great bartenders, making it less a traditional coffee shop and more a lively hub where craft drinks pair perfectly with the freedom to explore multiple cuisines without leaving your seat.

Such a vibe! Super trendy food hall featuring 4 restaurants. Kazoku, a sushi spot. LaPalapa, featuring Mexican cuisine and tapas. Loaded, smashed burgers and Korean corn dogs, and Cuddy's Soul Food, food that's definitely for the soul. There is a full service bar with knowledgeable and skilled bartenders. LH also has vintage pinball machines and arcade games. There is plenty of seating up and downstairs for you to eat your food and enjoy your drinks.

We had lunch/brunch at Lawrence Hall (we sampled from La Palapa and Kazoku) and all were very happy. I cannot speak for the others with me but I really enjoyed my breakfast burrito from La Palapa. Very filling and flavorful. The ordering via app (at counter was an option too) was easy and the service was timely. Very pleasant staff and even watching other servers at counters one could see attention to customer care. Lawrence Hall was relatively quiet but the whole place has a good vibe and atmosphere. Enjoyed and will try to return on a future visit to the Pittsburgh area.

A nice, clean, trendy food hall experience. I recommend the happy hour at Dear James bar. Good draft selection with a decent discount & some domestic options for your pleasure. Great, bartender by the way. For the table there are water bars tucked in the corners of the building with freshly cleaned glassware & bottle carafes. These bars feature complimentary cold water & bubbly water. Food selection at my visit had 4 main kitchens ranging from southern soul food to fresh rolled sushi. Up front is some ice cream with a sidewalk window. Seating is ample in the middle of the hall. Upstairs is more intimate, tho a little traffic to the Pinball machines. Overall the hall was well kept & clean. Bathrooms are on both floors. Before this hall opened there were issues with zoning & parking. You can park out front in the street, though down a block just right across from the cemetery there is a corner lot that folks can use as well. Cool time all around with options from economical to higher end experiences.

I really enjoy this place. I come here pretty often, the service is always great and the vibes are super fun. It is a cool place to go if you and your group want to try different things. They have four different restaurants to choose from and then you order right on your phone. Currently the pizza restaurant closed and a new sushi restaurant is getting ready to open. It’s pretty expensive though for both drinks and food. I got two drinks for happy hour and a kids smash burger and and it was over $40. This time we decided to try the chips and dip trio, the queso and guacamole was delicious but the salsa just tasted like tomato soup it was very strange.

We got a few things from different restaurants. The atmosphere was great. 2 levels of seating with the added bonus of pinball machines. Great bar selection & ALL of the food we got was delicious. Definitely looking forward to going back to try more food options. 💖
