J.P. Licks
Coolidge Corner, Brookline, MA
Crema's Take
“JP Licks is a Brookline institution with a loyal following, especially among locals who appreciate it as the perfect pit stop after catching a movie at the nearby Coolidge Theatre or grabbing dinner in the neighborhood. Beyond their signature ice cream, they've earned recognition for creative drinks served in thoughtful ways and a versatile vibe that welcomes both quick coffee runs and lingering hangouts, with solid outdoor seating for those sunny Coolidge Corner days. While service can be inconsistent, the shop's central location and genuine community presence make it a reliable go-to for dessert cravings and specialty drinks.”

This is the worst ice cream I’ve ever had. I have never been so upset by a ice cream brand in my entire life. First of all the low-fat yogurt taste like the freezer burn of a turkey Hill ice cream container that you left in the bottom of your drawer after five years. Then the regular cookie dough taste like nothing at all. It doesn’t even taste like cookies doesn’t taste like vanilla. It doesn’t taste sweet. It just is so bland and then lastly the banana peanut butter swirl. Ice cream was good but it only taste like banana. I had zero flavor of peanut butter. My friend got the black raspberry and it was good, but it was extremely overwhipped. They need to fix the texture as soon as possible.
I was amazed to see my frappes delivered in a carton cup holder. Wow that's interesting. Whoever thought about it is definitely an innovative mindset person. Keep it up. Loved the idea and the service. And forever fan of the frappes 😊❤️❤️
Took our friends here for dessert on Saturday evening, we’re regulars and wanted to show our friends from out of town. The lady serving was borderline rude and rushed through our order so she could get back to the back room chat. You can’t fault the ice cream but we left feeling embarrassed that we had recommended the place.
JP licks is a Brookline classic, great to stop by for any occasion whether it be after a meal or seeing a movie at the Coolidge theater, it’s always nice to have delicious ice cream! There’s always a large assortment of fresh flavors and they’re much better than the stuff u can find in stores. It’s a great option for a snack and especially awesome in the summer!
If you are in Coolidge Corner on a sunny, pleasant outdoor type of day ... and start to think about how nice an ice cream cone would be - head straight to JP Licks (across from the beloved Coolidge Corner Theatre). You might enjoy an art exhibit or live music while you wait in line. We did (see photos).
