Crema's Take

Cacao is a cozy Newton Highlands hideaway that transforms the simple cafe experience into something special through its Dominican roots and chocolate obsession—their spicy hot chocolate rivals fancy desserts, and their chocolate chip cookies and truffles (the Aztec truffle especially) are serious enough to stop you mid-afternoon. The intimate, vibrant atmosphere with great music and genuinely warm staff makes it feel less like a pit stop and more like a place you'll want to linger, whether you're meeting a friend or catching up on work between errands.

Absolutely love Cacao in Newton. Their spicy hot chocolate is rich, perfectly balanced, and has just the right kick. The truffle selection is fantastic, especially the Aztec truffle, which is bold, complex, and unforgettable. A must visit spot for chocolate lovers.

Cacao is a small cafe located in Newton Highlands, specializing in chocolate related confectionery and drinks. We came in during the afternoon, and it was quite busy but the staff were very accommodating and knew the menu quite well, recommending some things to try out. They had a large assortment of pre-assembled goods to buy, such as chocolate covered nuts, as well as hot chocolate mix. We tried the hot chocolate and the dulce de leche. The portion size was reasonable for the price, and the chocolate was pretty good. The hot chocolate was made primarily of dark chocolate, which isn't my favorite, but turned out to be a good choice as it cooled down and became more rich. Overall, a great experience and would definitely come back to try again.

Easily one of the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had, and I’m a tough critic! All their chocolates and sweets are just as good! This spot is also a very cute and cozy atmosphere!

I stopped by Cacao after a Pilates class next door and was pleasantly surprised! I didn't realize it was a Dominican coffee shop at first, but once I saw the decor, I had a little moment like, "wait a minute, why does all this feel familiar?!" And I may or may not be biased because I'll always support my people I ordered a buttered croissant and a dulce de leche latte to enjoy there. The space is homey and warm, the kind of place that immediately makes you feel grounded. For a few minutes, it really felt like home, especially seeing touches of my roots reflected in the atmosphere. The staff were super friendly and attentive, and there's a great variety of drinks and pastries. I'll definitely be back. So glad my friend recommended it.

The place is a whole vibe . Super friendly I wanted to stay ! The chocolate is high caliber , pastries and coffee . Thus far , for the quality it’s reasonably priced. The great music is an added plus. The bathroom is super clean as well as the place as a whole . They have indoor seating . They have one seat outside as well . There is limited meter parking but it’s across from a whole lot of metered parking . It’s also in front of the Greenline , Newton center .
