Lofi Café

5905 Clark Rd A, Chico, CA

Crema's Take

Tucked away on a quiet Chico street, Lofi Café punches well above its unassuming storefront with genuinely creative sandwiches that locals rave about—think jam as a secret weapon condiment and thoughtfully composed breakfast combinations that feel both inventive and comforting. The real magic here is the care: staff consistently go out of their way to make guests feel welcomed and valued, while the seasonal menu keeps things fresh and intentional rather than static. It's the kind of place where you can linger over a quality coffee and excellent pastry while feeling like you're part of something small and genuinely good.

Have never felt quite so taken care of as I did at Lofi Cafe. It's a humble enough looking shop, with an unassuming storefront and somewhat sparse decoration. I ordered a veggie bagel breakfast sandwich and a maple brown sugar mocha, and left my stainless coffee carafe at the counter. I had attempted to clean my carafe (long overdue) not so long before using a soak of vinegar, salt, soap, and hot water, but it hadn't been the most successful and I hadn't gotten around to trying something else yet. When the young man brought my coffee out, he told me that he'd seen I'd tried unsuccessfully, so used some Urnex to clean it out completely for me himself. After thanking him and chatting for a bit, he told us he goes to great pains to choose quality coffee from a local roaster we're familiar with to make his blends, and wants to make sure his customers get the full benefit. That's thoughtfulness both of craft and consideration I can get behind. He even sent me home with a couple packets of cleaner on the house. If that weren't enough, the breakfast sandwiches we got were delicious. I appreciated that they indicated on the menu most things could be made vegetarian, and that they had a vegetarian option (fairly uncommon for breakfast sandwiches). Even better, they were reasonably priced and loaded with good stuff. Way above average all around. Then he asks us if we like tiramisu and brings us out a free block of it. Said that he'd made too much for a recent catering order and had been trying to give it away to customers so it wouldn't go to waste. And it too was stunningly good, with real mascarpone cream and a perfect texture. We're picky about tiramisu, so that was a nice surprise. Lofi Cafe lives up to its name in the sense that it feels very casual, has an air of the extremely local with a fairly spartan dining area, kids running around, and a big kitchen that sits in full view of the rest of the place, but all that belies an unusually strong coffee ethos (knowledge of good beans to begin with, and sweet drinks not sickeningly so, but rich in flavor and depth), some really satisfying food, and a clear desire to make sure customers feel welcome and cared for. I really can't give a higher recommendation than that. We don't live in Paradise, but will for sure be making a stop at Lofi Cafe any time we're in town.

Excellent, creative sandwiches! Who knew that jam could be used so effectively as a condiment?? I had the cobbler and my husband had the ham jam bam and we were both so incredibly happy. Great quality meat, and the croissants were perfect! Please go so it will be there next time I come through! Love this place! Servers were quite friendly, too.
