Great atmosphere, very weak tea. I’m sure it’s a great spot if you happen to like very delicate brews, but they don’t appreciate requests to steep the tea longer and it is very very light. Their black tea was weak the two times I’ve been here - like are you sure this is tea it has no flavor at all kind of weak - and there won’t be a third time.

As I was walking and saw the sign that said "SOPHIE'S CUPPA TEA Not all caffeine is black" I had an immediate reaction. I love tea and I love to support local mom's and pop's shops, and would have loved to try a cuppa where, according to the website, one doesn't need to put milk and sugar in it. However, the undertext of the signage didn't sit quite well with me. I was curious as to why I had such a visceral reaction, so much so that I researched the chemical composition of caffeine. In my research caffeine is not one color at all, but is comprised of all colors as it comes in a white powdered form. White is all the colors in the visible light spectrum. Perhaps the owner had good intentions with this sign, but she totally missed the context clues of the surrounding environment, Oakland, CA.

Great experience as a tea beginner! I came based on a friend’s recommendation when I said I wanted to start buying better (read: non supermarket) tea for myself but was overwhelmed by the options. I tried a cup before buying some, and received detailed instructions and advice on brewing. The folks were super nice and the space is great too.

The best tea I’ve ever had in my life. Everything about this place is made with a lot of love. The owners are very passionate about what they do and that is clearly reflected into their business. The shop is very cozy, peaceful and cute. Love it!

I don't know how to put this any other way, but this is one of the most special places I have ever been too. This might seem a little extreme for a tea shop; however, Sophie's Cuppa Tea is a sanctuary of peace and serenity. The owners, Bei and John, are two of the most incredible people I have ever met and they also serve the best tea I have ever had. I can promise everyone that they will not be disappointed if they come to this shop. In addition to the shop, if you are looking for your next vacation, ask them about their yearly China Tea Trip. It is a once in a life time opportunity (although I plan on going every year!). See photos below :). BTW: They have amazing snacks and salads (fresh and organic).
