Crema's Take

Tucked in Knoxville's Old City, Five and Hoek is an espresso-focused roastery where the baristas visibly slow down to craft each cup with precision—whether that's a carefully pulled shot for your latte or a thoughtfully poured pour over that lets the bean's natural flavors shine. The stripped-back approach to their menu (seasonal offerings, no syrup crutches) appeals to serious coffee lovers who'd rather taste what the roaster intended, and the hip, spacious room works equally well for lingering solo or settling in for a meeting.

I've become extremely picky with my coffee and espresso that it is rare these days that I love a latte outside of my favorite places and do not enjoy the syrups at majority of places so I always just get a cortado or Americano. I first tried Five and Hoek while visiting Wheaton and was absolutely amazed by their home made syrups, I've had nothing like it and I try the best coffee shops everywhere I go all over the country. When I saw this location on a road trip I knew I needed to make a stop and was just as pleased. If you are a true high quality coffee lover this place is for you. Absolutely shocked at the person that called it average. Nothing average about these amazing home made syrups, currently enjoying the whisky vanilla. Also shout out to the super sweet girl at the register who gave my daughter a free latte because we've been to both locations!

Five & Hoek is a great coffee option in Knoxville, Tennessee. Located in the heart of the Old City neighborhood, it serves up amazing coffee & lattes. The coffee was fresh and bold. Plenty of seating inside and a chill vibes.

Walking into this cafe, I was washed over with the feeling of averageness. The Millennial Modern architecture that looked like it could be anywhere in the United States, the average coffee that evoked nothing special within the mouth or the mind, and the nonchalantness of the staff members. The "eh, either get something or don't, we don't really care." But you know the air will definitely turn still once you leave a below average tip, one that beckons below the averageness of this facility. Walking into this cafe gives the same feeling as the movie Vivarium does. Nothing is overtly wrong, but there is an unsettling feeling to the averageness of this place. Something sinister underneath, in all it's Millennial Modern glory.

I was on a roadtrip and saw a couple good reviews about the quality of the coffee. I ordered an oat milk latte. It was very tasty. I can see the barista taking their time to make a perfect coffee than some shops just want to make as fast as possible. Laid back vibes. Very clean and quiet environment with perfect volume of music.

What you expect out of a coffee roaster. Small coffee list that does have seaaonal flavors. Roasters want you to taste the flavor profiles. I definitely enjoyed the iced mocha. Nice hip space. Would definitely go back.
