Crema's Take
“Alicia's Coffee is a beloved Birmingham institution where the espresso-focused drinks—from silky bourbon caramel lattes to perfectly robust black coffee—are matched only by the warmth of owner Alicia and her team, who treat every customer like family. This isn't just a coffee shop; it's a treasured gathering spot with deep roots in the community, offering both traditional excellence and creative specialty drinks in an atmosphere that feels genuinely personal and welcoming. Whether you're grabbing a quick cup before visiting the nearby Civil Rights National Monument or settling in for conversation, you'll find yourself returning for the thoughtful coffee craft and the people who make it feel like home.”

I'm so happy I got the opportunity to pop-in and check this place out. I'll be honest to admit that as an American I had very little knowledge of what actually took place here and the history that it has. I met Alicia as I walked-in and she kindly explained the cafe, the hotel, and the amazing work of Arthur George Gaston. If you're in Birmingham, please stop here and enjoy coffee and conversation, you may even learn something new like I did. Keep up the great work.
" An Absolute-Pleasure...1 of Birmingham's Treasures from then til now. I ordered a large Black coffee. It was robust, warm & hugged my tongue like a winter mitten. Then I went back the next day and got the Mixed smoothie, Potato soup &Turkey wrap.....OUTSTANDING! The service? Impeccable! Congratulations Alicia! Keep on brewing Birmingham!" - Treeair Lakeland
I visited this wonderful coffee shop last week during a mini visit with one of my friends. I ordered the bourbon caramel latte and it was delicious and smooth! Mr. Roc displayed amazing customer service and the atmosphere felt like family. Touring the museum of AG Gaston was a great experience as well! I will definitely return when visiting Birmingham again!
This little gem is absolutely delightful! Alicia, Roc, Toya, and Ms. Cheryl are truly the best—they're not only friendly but also incredibly professional. They feel like family. The coffee, smoothies, and food are all delicious, with a wide range of options, including vegan choices.Whether you're in the mood for a hearty breakfast to kickstart your day or a light afternoon snack, this place has something to satisfy every craving. The cozy atmosphere invites you to linger, perhaps with a good book or in the company of friends. It's the kind of spot where conversations flow easily, laughter is heard often, and everyone's day is made a little brighter by the warmth of the team. Don't forget to try their signature pastries—they're a sweet treat you won't want to miss!
Alicia’s Coffee shop is a place you need to stop at when seeing Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument. The drinks and food are great. The owners are delightful and have a wealth of knowledge about the civil rights movement.
