Mattheessen's Homemade

Crema's Take
“Mattheessen's Homemade is a destination worth the drive, beloved for their freshly baked signature cookies that arrive warm and impossibly soft alongside housemade ice cream that keeps locals and travelers returning year after year. Beyond the standard Key West sweets, they're known for what might be the island's best key lime pie—a perfectly balanced graham cracker crust and creamy filling that justifies every penny at $7.75 a slice. It's the kind of place where the aroma of fresh baking hits you the moment you walk in, making it ideal for lingering over coffee and conversation with a plate of their uniquely delicious creations.”

There are plenty of places to get dessert in Key West. I know because we tried most of them! What’s nice about Mattheessen’s is that they offer some items that are uniquely their own. Food: The one item that really stood out was the PB Fudge Cookie. It’s a large peanut butter cookie with a thick layer of peanut butter fudge, topped with another thick layer of chocolate fudge. Yes, it’s one big and delicious cookie. It’s expensive at $12, but it’s large enough to feed a family of six. There were other items that looked equally amazing, including the chocolate-dipped coconut macaroons. On another visit a couple of days later, we tried the Key lime pie, and it was excellent. The crust had a rich, buttery flavor and held together well. Instead of the traditional meringue topping, they used whipped cream, which was a nice touch. We even asked for extra. Service: The staff were friendly, helpful, and patient. We never felt rushed. Atmosphere: The shop is well lit, clean, and has an upbeat aesthetic. Mattheessen’s is a place we would, and did, return to for a second visit.
These cookies are the entire reason we drove from Orlando to Key West on a Monday — and I’d do it again without hesitation. They are huge, incredibly fresh, and absolutely delicious. Soft, flavorful, and each cookie feels like a full experience, not just a snack. One is more than enough… but you’ll still want another - left with 4. To top it off, the girls working there were friendly and let us know they ship — and within two days. Dangerous information to have, because now there’s no excuse not to order again. 🍪
Went there 3 years ago each day and yesterday once we returned to KeyWest. Cookies are yummy and the ice cream is delicious. Maybe a bit pricey but what’s not expensive on an island.
The best key lime pie is the best in Key West. Don't believe me? Try it for yourself. Cost of a slice is $7.75 for a little bit of heaven. It's the perfect graham cracker crust with a creamy filling and a shot of whipped cream. Highly recommended! The cookies looked beautiful, too.
Mattheessen’s Homemade is absolutely delicious! The ice cream sundae was incredible, topped with warm, fresh cookies that smelled amazing the moment you walked in. The whole place is filled with the mouthwatering aroma of freshly baked cookies and sweets. Everything tasted rich, homemade, and full of flavor. If you’re in Key West, this place is a must-visit!”
