Crema's Take

Tucked into Overland Park, The Wooden Spoon delivers a cozy, intimate breakfast and brunch experience where homemade touches matter—think perfectly cooked eggs with no scorch marks and from-scratch biscuits that anchor their gravy. While consistency can be hit-or-miss with service and cleanliness, when they're firing on all cylinders, you'll find yourself lingering over coffee refills in their small, warm space that feels like a neighborhood gathering spot rather than a chain.

We used to go here often when we lived in OP. The service was ok, food was pretty good, but floors were always full of crumbs and dirt. What stopped us from coming here ever again was when we ordered a big pickup order. My friend ordered, and she was getting frustrated with the person taking our order. She was pregnant at the time and having a hard pregnancy. I picked up the order and tipped them well. We get home and the biscuits and gravy had NO gravy, literally dry biscuits with a tiny bit of gravy. We had gone there very regularly so I know this is not how they serve it. All I can assume is that they decided to seek retribution for my friends bad mood. If you don’t want to take someone’s order because they’re frustrated or rude, that’s their choice. But to take our order over $60 and then serve us a poor rendition of their menu items? That is petty and unprofessional. We never went back. Lots of better brunch places near us now that we live near downtown. This place is mediocre unfortunately.

*ETA* since it wont let me respond to the manager- 1.) we ended up ordering chocolate milk, because the restaurant didn't have the "powder" for hot cocoa. That is my point. You can be out of it but clearly its just a powder and not actual hot coca. We ordered chcocolate milk. We didnt "save money" 2.) I dont leave negative reviews unless it's a mold infested hotel or restaurant with not good food. You can scroll and see my boastful reviews of amazing reaturants in the area. 3.) A nice thing would have been to say "man im sorry we didnt met your expectations" vs. Trying to justify the fake chemical tasting food. 4.) Im aware how soft local scrambled eggs taste. I eat them daily. This was nasty wet soggy no flavored scrambled eggs. 5.) Funny how the restaurant didn't even mention the chemical tasting red dye fake raspberry syrup drizzle. No idea how this place is highly recommended. The food was literally inedible. I got the lemon ricotta pancakes-which are supposed to be their specialty. The raspberry drizzle is a fake raspberry and so chemical tasting its inedible. You know the cupcakes that have so much food dye you can taste it? That's what the "raspberry" drizzle tasted like. Red food dye. There was no lemon other than some zest on top. The pancakes were dense - not light and fluffy. I mean. Literally i ate two bites and couldn't eat any more it tasted so chemical. You couldnt eat the scrambled eggs & hashbrowns either. It was a fake butter and soupy. (You can see in the picture). I love butter and these tasted AWFUL. We ordered a breakfast quesadilla too. Zero flavor. We tried to order hot cocoa and they "didnt have any"?? So they use packets and not real cocoa? How can you not make hot cocoa? The server was kind and offered to remake the food, but after gross bites we didn't want to eat anymore. She discounted our meal, which was nice. Server was kind & restaurant was empty.

Excellent experience got in and out in a busy morning within 30 minutes. The server was super pleasant and attentive, and the restaurant was very clean. Food was amazing.

First time trying this place. It's kind of small but cozy. Service was a little slow but they were working hard. I had to ask a couple of times for a coffee refill. Food was very good but the portions are pretty small except the pancakes. A young boy next to us got the full stack chocolate chip pancakes. He was in shock. I got the breakfast burrito meal. Came with a small burrito cut in half and a small portion of hash browns. It was delicious. We also got a cinnamon roll. It tasted like orange frosting but was tasty. My wife enjoyed her omelette. My daughter liked her French toast but not the eggs. Overall enjoyed our visit. I definitely would return.

Biscuits and gravy were good, but need more sausage in the gravy. Biscuits themselves were great. Eggs cooked nicely with no scorching! Bacon was awesome. Wife had the pancakes stuffed with eggs and bacon … pretty good. Service was excellent. Small place, we had to sit by the door and it was chilly.
