Crema's Take
“House of Bread Bakery is a cozy Anchorage spot that truly shines for its exceptional sourdough and fresh-baked goods, making it a reliable choice for picking up pastries and artisanal bread for on-the-go adventures. The warm, fireplace-lit interior creates an inviting atmosphere perfect for lingering conversations or meeting friends, though be prepared that service moves at a leisurely pace—something regulars seem to appreciate more as part of the experience than newer visitors. Their house-made soups and sandwiches pair beautifully with quality coffee, offering a genuine neighborhood bakery feel that rewards those willing to settle in and savor the slower rhythm.”

Tomato basil soup and sourdough bread were delicious but took 25 minutes despite plenty of staff and few customers. Despite the excellent food I will never come back bc the service was insanely slow. This after I “pre tipped” 🙄
Delightfully quaint quaint little bakery and Cafe. Coffee was delicious but cold when I got it. Highly recommend the sweet potato curry soup and the sourdough was amazing. Yum! And the whole place smelled amazing!
I waited 40 minutes for an egg and bacon sandwich. What were they doing back there? Chasing chickens for the eggs? Curing the bacon? The sandwich wasn’t worth the price or the wait.
Read reviews before our trip so had to visit. We got to Anchorage and picked up our Camper Jeep nearby then stopped by for a sliced loaf of sourdough and some cookies and bars for our camping trip! Today we are traveling home and stopped by before returning our jeep! We had a cinnamon roll with nuts, drip coffee, water and an Alaskan Fusion Panini (I think that’s what it was called) on sourdough! We also got lemon bars for the flights home! Everything is so fresh and delicious! I wish we had places like this in Central Florida! The girls that work here are very helpful with sharing what they like and suggest. There are only a few employees in there at a time so have patience! Must visit on your Alaskan adventure!!
I ate here when they first opened and thought it was fine, but coming back recently I really enjoyed it. The fireplace and seating is cozy and offers good options for conversation. The bread tastes very home made and hearty, I had a bowl of their roasted pepper soup and thought it was really, really good. It comes with two pieces of whatever bread you'd like on the side--not just a piece cut into two reasonable, but two full pieces. All for under $10. Seemed like a good price for a good meal. The cinnamon rolls they had on display looked especially delicious, I just didn't have any room to try them!
