Crema's Take

Shapeshifters Cafe is a beautifully renovated Oakland home that shines as a brunch destination, especially for their inventive breakfast specials like French toast with house-made sauce and customizable sandwiches from Firebrand breads. Beyond solid coffee, they're winning hearts with creative touches like house-made teas and cinnamon syrup, paired with a genuinely friendly vibe and a sunny back patio that makes lingering feel effortless and affordable.

Coffee and food were unbelievably mediocre. The chai shouldn’t even be on the menu. It’s a singular tea bag with milk. Literally tastes solely like water and milk. Had them make a mocha instead, coffee was burnt. Vietnamese coffee was also terrible and had a line of unmixable condensed milk on the bottom. I also ordered two sandwiches which were terrible. The quality is poor and this is some of the saddest coffee I’ve had in Oakland. Definitely needs some major improvements.

Love the expanded menu and design of the cafe. Firebrand breads, house made treats and teas, cinnamon syrup! Delicious sandwiches (which you can half and half!) and a cozy vibe.

The space is a beautiful renovation of classic residential home. I had the French toast special, which was only $10! I watched them make the sauce and it was incredible. Not many places in the Bay Area where you get this combination of price and quality. Iced coffee was solid too. Will 💯 return when I am back in the area.

A great Oakland gem with breakfast and lunch options. Their coffee is delicious, and they have a nice sunny back patio. Not overpriced, and the staff is very friendly. A very good brunch option when you want to avoid the crowds and actually be able to sit down and chat.
