Sweet Martha’s Cookie Jar
1791 Dan Patch Ave, Saint Paul, MN
Crema's Take
“Sweet Martha's is a State Fair institution beloved for cookies that live up to the hype—warm, buttery, and generous enough to share (or not). The cookies arrive in impressively generous portions, with chocolate that melts perfectly and a texture that's soft enough to break apart but sturdy enough to travel home, making them worth the fair pilgrimage for both first-timers and devoted regulars. Fair-goers consistently rave about the quality and friendliness here, though arrive with realistic expectations about lines and pricing at this iconic Minnesota booth.”

I visited the State Fair on Thursday 08/28/2025. At approximately 9:30 PM I visited the booth located at the West side of Underwood St. between Murphy & Lee Avenues. I am deeply disappointed in the treatment I received from the staff. I am disabled and use a scooter. I requested a cup. I stated I’m disabled and have a disability accommodations request. I requested that they put the cup together like they usually do and then dump it into a bucket w a lid. I was told “absolutely not”, that I would need to buy a bucket. When I asked why, they stated “because of inventory purposes”. I then asked if they could put the cookies piled on top into a separate cup, again they said no and cited “because of inventory”. I asked if I paid for a bucket, then what would happen to all of those extra cookies that they pile on top? They told me all they could do is fill the bucket til the lid closed and that’s all I would get. At this point, the employee was displaying annoyance and irritation with me via their sharp tone, short words, and facial expressions. People behind me in line were getting annoyed. I started to feel embarrassed, frustrated, and dehumanized. I said fine, I’ll do the bucket. So I paid $24.77 for a bucket that they hastily filled part way, slapped the lid on, and shoved at me. They were reluctant to reach down over the counter to hand me things or take my card when I couldn’t reach them. They were making annoyed sighing and scoffing sounds. They were rushing me and speaking to me in a clipped and harsh tone. This entire experience was *incredibly* frustrating, disappointing, and disheartening. Please train those who work your booths to better serve disabled individuals. And please re-think your policies regarding providing accommodations to disabled folks. Expecting us to pay the same price for much less than others get, simply because we can’t physically handle the poorly packaged overflow of product, is a very discriminatory business practice.
BEST COOKIES IN MN! Friendly Staff, Always Very Good with Serving Customers properly, QUALITY Cookies, & it’s like your grandmas best cookies on steroids!!!
Always a great experience at Sweet Martha's. If you haven't enjoyed their cookies at the fair yet, be warned the quanities (whether you order a cup or the bucket) are HUGE!! Plenty to share with friends/family/loved ones, or a way to meet a new friend by gifting some cookies away. I look forward to enjoying these every year. A state fair staple. PS - they have location on Carnes Avenue, and a 2nd location next to the Grandstand. My favorite is the Carnes Avenue location.
I am really disappointed in Sweet Martha’s cookies this year at the fair. That’s the one thing I look forward to at the fair. This is how my cookies looked this year after bringing them home.
The cookies are just good as everyone says. I got them warm so they didn’t break apart easily yet the cookie was soft, easy to bite into, chocolate melted in the best way. A jar is $20 but you can get a cup for $9 and they also serve milk to dip the cookies into. They seem to have 2 locations in the whol fair but the one near the Pet Pavillion is bigger. You also have a little cute jar to bring back home with you as a little souvenir. Staff were super friendly and made small talk with us. It’s also fun to see the behind the scenes as the business is booming so that cookies are literally flying around.
