Frgmnt Coffee

Crema's Take

This espresso-focused Minneapolis gem serves thoughtfully crafted signature drinks like the beloved Frgmnt Fog—a floral, subtly sweet creation that keeps regulars coming back—alongside consistently smooth specialty lattes that even former baristas praise. Beyond the coffee, it's a layered destination with an integrated bookstore, rotating art exhibits, and a sprawling second floor that transforms the space into something between a gallery and gathering place, complete with ample workspace and reliable wifi for those who want to linger. The atmosphere strikes that rare balance of being simultaneously cozy for solo contemplation and welcoming for meetings and groups, making it feel less like a coffee shop and more like a cultural hub.

My name is Nikita, and I love good espresso — that’s why I’ve been a loyal regular here for a long time. As a former barista, I know that customer dissatisfaction can be stressful; that’s why, even when a shot isn’t up to my standard, I usually just leave it unfinished and move on with my day. It’s different when your barista is also your kind friend outside of this setting. In that case, I feel more comfortable mentioning that my drink isn’t great, assuming they feel secure enough to not get stressed and simply pull another shot. And I have zero problem with you, M. There also was a busy-looking man who decided to intervene and said that he’d had an espresso some time before and “thoroughly enjoyed it,” implying — I don’t even know what — either that I just don’t get it, or that I was, god forbid, trying to insult the barista. I said that I didn’t know this guy, and they all informed me: he was the owner. The service industry in this country (especially in the Midwest) is exceptional, and it’s been an honor to be part of it from either side of the counter. Seeing a business owner let me get up disappointed and leave, without offering a replacement — that’s really uncommon, to say the least. After 2 years of me spending money on espresso, lattes for my fianceé, baked goods and merch - the owner showed an absolute lack of care and appreciation, and it made me so sad and betrayed this morning. I hope there will be some response to this review. Until then, my frgmnt era is on hold.

I end up here a lot when I am staying downtown Minneapolis. The coffee is always great, and the almond milk lattes are very smooth. They have bakery items and a small case of wraps, salads, and parfaits. They also have a variety of cold drinks. The atmosphere is spacious and clean, easy to find a place to yourself.

The moment I walked into FRGMNT, I knew it was going to be special — but I wasn’t ready for this latte. The FRGMNT Fog with oat milk was cozy, floral, and just the right amount of sweet… like a warm hug in cup form. The space is beautiful, the staff genuinely kind, and the whole experience felt like one of those rare coffee moments you don’t forget. This one’s officially been added to The Food Vault. 💭☁️

The environment and atmosphere are so lovely here. Big open workspace, with a great little bookstore, exhibits, and shop. Good WiFi, lots of outlets. However, drinks were weirdly bad. I had 2 ice lattes and an iced matcha over 2 days. The coffee had a very weird flavor - like weak and stale - and the matcha was one of those that just tastes like milk. I also got a banana bread, which was solid, and a cherry poptart that was not worth the money. In the future, I might come for the vibes and stick to a canned drink (they seem to have a good variety, see picture).

This new coffee shop is amazing, and I'm glad there is a book store so you can grab any book to read while having coffee there. The second floor is like an art museum and it's great for a group of friends to study or also perfect for a cute date as well. I got a matcha latte with chocolate croissant, and the staff were friendly.
